Disclaimer: A free copy of this book was received through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I think what I loved the most about this book is the writing style. I love how poetic this book is. The metaphors stated here were beautifully painted in my mind as I read them. The mention of some old music is amazing too. (Shine On You Crazy Diamond and The Wall by Floyd are my favorites.) While reading this book, I felt like I was either watching a sad 90’s movie or listening to a friend talk. It was an easy read but the contents are not easy on my eyes and my heart. And that’s okay. I think I can take that. Chandler Morrison’s works have been met with both critical acclaim and reader reactions, as his writing style is noted for its emotional depth and insight into mental health topics. His work is praised for being analytical yet engaging, as it speaks to the subconscious desire for liberation in its audience.Honestly, DEAD INSIDE has a Tarantino-esque quality about it in the sense that it is SO over-the-top offensive, SO over-the-top disgusting that it's *almost* funny. I also wrote a review for this book in 2012 when it was self published as "Straightling." I want to include it in this review (I hope thats ok). Here is what I wrote then:

Brotherfollows a teenager determined to break from his family’s unconventional—and deeply disturbing—traditions. I obviously spoke too soon about being desensitized. Jesus Christ! I’m officially disturbed so kudos to you, sir. Don’t try to make sense of it, just read and watch where it takes you. I looked away numerous times saying in my head no way did I just read that because of how disgusting this book is. Yeah, it’s really… really graphic, bad, and deranged. is definitely not for the faint of heart, so let me ask you: Are you ready for this? Enter at your own risk. And if that means my mind is kinda deviated at this point then by all means. I won't complain about it. Nope. 𝐈 𝐖𝐈𝐋𝐋 𝐖𝐄𝐀𝐑 𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐓𝐈𝐓𝐋𝐄 𝐋𝐈𝐊𝐄 𝐀 𝐁𝐀𝐃𝐆𝐄 𝐎𝐅 𝐇𝐎𝐍𝐎𝐑.While there are moments of joy and hope present in Dead Inside, much of the story focuses on how we deal with pain and suffering when life throws us into unexpected situations. At the same time, it questions how such spiritual beliefs may be challenged or undermined by scientific rationalism. I've never, ever read a memoir before and I have no idea why I requested to read The Dead Inside (thank you NetGalley & publishers!) but I am thankful that I had a chance to read it. I have never experienced what this author went through and it was really, really difficult to read. It was...horror. I can't imagine how difficult it must have been to bare her soul out for the world to see. This girl, who wanted to fit in with the world and feel like she belonged, a girl with a harsh life, and sent to a place where she has no business being, made my heart hurt. At times, I felt like it wasn't even real life but repeatedly I was reminded that it was. That this actually happened to someone and many others. Through suspenseful writing techniques employed by Chandler Morrison, Dead Inside provides readers with an insightful perspective on internal strife and mental illness that is both analytical yet engaging. Are there any film or television adaptations of Dead Inside?

Cannibalism and Necrophilia. Can't say i have ever read a book with the both in it. I've read books with cannibalism but I can't remember one with Necrophilia (and i'm fairly certain I 𝐖𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 remember that). Now I'm a woman of 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐲, 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐲 kinks but dead people. . . . Well that's where i draw the line. For some reason they don't do it for me. For Sex or Dinner. Go figure. 𝐍𝐨 𝐣𝐮𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐝𝐨. 𝐋𝐞𝐭 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤 𝐅𝐥𝐚𝐠 𝐅𝐥𝐲. 𝐈 𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐝𝐨...When I found out that I was going outward bound, I thought it was a death sentence. I truly believed my parents were sending me off to get eaten by a bear or fall off a cliff. Or possibly starve. I begged. I pleaded. I cried. In desperate hope that my parents would change their minds and take me home. They didn't. In this bleak and disturbingly erotic debut novel, iconoclast Chandler Morrison provides readers with a dark exploration of the nature of death, individuality, and generational identity. Along the way, lines will be crossed, taboos will be violated, and common decency will take an extended leave of absence. This is not for the faint of heart or weak of stomach. Or anyone who enjoyed Fifty Shades of Grey.

Overall, Dead Inside provides an invaluable insight into the depths of our emotions and serves as a reminder that no matter how far down one goes, there is always hope on the horizon – like a light at the end of a tunnel. they proceed to hang out quite a lot. the mc is obviously very disgruntled and grossed out by the fact that he’s actually relating to another human being and to his absolute horror, he actually starts to like her, in his own sociopathic way. Be sure to read it with an open mind- willing to accept that there are NO exaggerations in this book. Then, when you're finished, read the epilogue and try to not have your stomach turn in knots for the thousands who, like Etler and myself, were actually there and are still here. But when a person feels dead inside, this purpose is missing. Every day appears with a question mark on the next 24 hours. These feelings can make daily life tedious and unappealing. Questioning The Meaning of Life i’ve never been any kind of athlete or anything, but am i seriously the only person who realizes that infants are the perfect punting shape? if we replaced footballs with babies, i would have been far more successful in high school gym class.” this man…💀For readers of Girl Interrupted and Tweak, Cyndy Etler's gripping memoir gives readers a glimpse into the harrowing reality of her sixteen months in the notorious "tough love" program the ACLU called "a concentration camp for throwaway kids." Besides that, as a metalhead, I did enjoy the Cannibal Corpse (fitting) reference as I love that death metal band. Morrison’s writing style is pretty good and honestly, this book will take you into the mind of a psychopath, a sociopath, basically someone that would have their own documentary that would be even crazier and creepier than anything you’ll see about Jeffrey Dahmer. Chandler Morrison’s novel, Dead Inside, is a powerful exploration of human emotion and inner turmoil. Providing readers with an intimate look into the depths of human emotion, Chandler Morrison’s novel effectively communicates its powerful message about inner turmoil, particularly in regards to the prevalence of mental health issues; according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, nearly 1 in 5 adults in the United States experience mental illness each year.
