About this deal

If the door is particularly dirty you might want to consider using a cleaning product such as Owatrol Net-Trol. Or for the removal of mildew you may want to use something such as a 50:50 bleach and water solution. However, if you’d like to modernise your home’s energy efficiency, you may feel like there is no other option but to change the doors. Once you have finished using Polytrol, clean any brushes or other tools you may have used with white spirit. Cloths can be left flat to airdry before discarding. We have a product information sheet that goes into further detail which you can find here: https://www.owatroldirect.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/Polytrol-Product-Information-1.pdf So long as the door isn’t white and has been painted the same colour each time, then Polytrol will work just fine.

How to revive a composite front door | Owatrol Direct

Polytrol works by saturating deep into the surface of the door, not by leaving a coating, so removal of the excess Polytrol is important. As you have suspected, using a wire brush will indeed leave scratch marks and Polytrol will not cover these. In fact they will probably accentuate them. All waxes, polishes, silicone etc should be completely and thoroughly removed as this will hinder the penetration of Polytrol. If you still have any queries regarding the use of Polytrol, please call us on 01582 592707 and we will gladly assist you.Good preparation is key to a good finish. To have an excellent result you must begin with a clean door free to any dirt, grease, grime and mildew. As Polytrol work by saturating deep down into the surface, if you have any wax or polish applied to the door, this will also need to be removed before application of Polytrol can begin. The wooden front doors of your home are extremely important for maintaining the character of your property. Without these beautiful doors, your home loses a fantastic period feature. As you can see, the steps we take to restore your period doors do not change their style of them at all. As I have said the paint has faded, the colour looks sad and the grain is showing white lines along the grain. Please advice and let me know where I can get the Polytrol colour restorer.

What you could do is remove the paint that has been applied with Dilunett: https://www.owatroldirect.co.uk/product/dilunett-gel/ You could try a sample pot of Polytrol to see if it will recover the surface of the door. We’d recommend trying it first in a small area to see if it will recover the surface. Although we didn’t have any mildew on the door, if you do, don’t worry. Mildew can be treated with a 50:50 bleach and water solution. Just scrub it on, leave it for 10-15 minutes, then rinse it off. I’m sure you’ll agree that the transformation is nothing short of marvellous! But by preserving them, restoring them and adding modern glazing and draughtproofing technology, you can enjoy all the benefits of modern window and door technology as well as the classic style of your doors. If the first application of Polytrol was not successful and the surface has remained dry and discoloured, then you can re-apply a further coating of Polytrol. So, if your house is Georgian, for example, this doesn’t mean that your doors are from this period. We can help you find out which period your doors are from when we see them. Certain styles of doors were popularised at different times throughout history. However, previous homeowners may have changed their doors to keep up with the current styles and trends, just as you are doing now. French doors have such an iconic style. And while there are modern uPVC replacements, nothing is going to do your home’s style more justice than the original doors.
