As for the pricing, they’re not particularly cheap, but give you a lot for your money. While it wouldn’t be fair to compare them to speakers that cost twice as much (or triple) – they still hold their own admirably.
When changing between the four different modes there is a minimal yet effective change to the overall tone, but to be honest I’d have expected the differences between them to be more distinct. The best of out the bunch is monitor mode though. They are big and will need a degree of space to operate, . But if you are looking at something more towards the audiophile scale, these are highly recommended. A great feature of the Audioengine A5+ speakers is their thermal protection making them hard to overheat and safe to use as desktop speakers. They also have a feature that limits the output current and voltage which is great for your peace of mind.All in all, the sound quality is very good from this Edifier model and it gives a pleasant listening experience. You are free to go as high as you want with the volume levels and still enjoy undistorted sound because of the great power of this speaker. On the bottom front of the right speaker, you’ll also find a small LCD status display – it shows you the currently selected input, volume levels, etc. – it’s bright, and quite easy to see, even in heavily lighted rooms. Surprising outcome given it seems like they could have done so much better if they had just tweaked the dsp a little bit more. Some “powered” speakers get around this by closing off empty space in the slave speaker to give it identical internal dimensions to master speaker. I am a bass head and the base is very good on these and its enough for most bass heads unless you want to disturb your far neighbours. But when there is a large explosion in a movie, you miss that thunderous feeling of an external sub by say, 10 to 15%. not a big deal.

The gold rimmed feet should ensure there’s enough clearance so they don’t scuff any surfaces they’re placed on, though it’s worth taking into account the depth of these speakers for placement. They’re quite deep (342mm) and will need a bit of space to operate. They are very heavy both speakers together weigh 17.1 kg so once you know where you’re going to put them you will only likely move them again if you move house. Most of the above problem go away when used in a large room with slightly higher volume. I kept the Z623 and edifiers seperated by 8ft between left and right speakers. Some songs sounded better on Edifiers and some on Logitechs. They were both a tie. The time where edifiers shined was when there were lot of highs. The tweeters give it an edge. I didnt find the sound stage wide from one speakers over the other. They both were good. There were times when I felt the Logis were not as clear as Edifiers. But in most cases they were a match. The Z623 tho cheap when bot used, did not get THX certification just like that. They are damn good speakers too. I tested most of my music albums which contained all genres and tested even high bitrate songs. As is, I can not recommend the Edifier S2000 Pro. It is just too imperfect. If you have it though, equalization helps a lot to turn it into a good sounding speaker at a great price. With the controls at the rear, you can always make adjustments to tune the sound to your specifications. There are four pre-sets, if you are keen you will note the difference though they may seem to sound almost the same to some hearers.
An included remote control often accompanies most Edifier bookshelf speakers, it’s a bit hit and miss sometimes though. But I’m pleased to say this time it’s a big win. The remote is fantastic and well built. It’s a metric I’ll keep an ear on in future sound tests. I must admit, I didn’t quite get to the 50 hour burn in time! These were only loan units so I had minimal time to get to grips with them. Something that had improved over the last set; a reduced amount of plastic. The cables needed to get set-up were in a cardboard sleeve, previously they had been encased in plastic.
