About this deal

If you compare the ACE 150 to kid-specific metal detectors it might look expensive, but this is a proper metal detector not a toy and it’s worth the extra cash to access the pre-set modes that avoid tedious trash. Not to mention its sturdy build and ‘really cool!’ looks. What you’ll be looking at for the most time is the identification scale. This is Garrett’s numeric target ID and it’ll tell you what you’ve found before digging. The great thing about Garrett metal detectors, including the ACE 250, is that everything is made in the United States. There’s no need to worry about quality or support issues. The ACE 250 is a particularly popular detector in Garrett’s lineup. The brand set out to create a device that was approachable to newer enthusiasts while still providing respectable performance that seasoned detectorists would appreciate. We’re happy to say that the brand was successful in that endeavor. The coil is elliptical (oval) measuring 6.5 x 9 inches so it can fit between objects easier than a full circle coil. I pushed it between logs and beneath benches fairly easily. The instructions say you can upgrade this coil should you want to.

The control box takes 4 x AA batteries which were supplied and fit the usual way in the hood of the control box. Works with the discrimination button to help narrow down metals. To stop detecting iron, hover over iron and press elimination to eliminate it from your search.Looking for only one type of metal? The ACE 250 has you covered. There are 5 different search modes available, which come with their own pre-set discrimination filters. Sensitivity settings are a must-have when you’re searching for metals. Larger items will have no problem interacting with the electromagnetic waves the device produce. But what about smaller objects?

I have a tall 10 year old who really wants to get into detecting he has extensively researched his first machine and thinks the Garret 250 is for him. He is rather hoping Father Christmas will be forthcoming… I’m Just after a bit of advice as to weather or not you think it’s size would suite him reading your blog the weight sounds fine. We will mostly be using it for beach and field detecting.hi i am thinking of purchasing the 150 for my 2 sons aged 10 and 11. Is this suitable for beaches also as we tend to spend a lot of time walking beaches. its a pity about the no pinpointing feature. would the 250 be a better buy I had lots of fun with the Garret ACE 250. On my first outing, I found plenty of trash on the playing field along with a few coins and an old lighter. In the woods, I found a horseshoe.

My son was testing a Garrett ACE 150 and when we got closer than 5-6 metres our detectors started screaming at one another like two grumpy cats. The Ace 200 is not waterproof so don’t drop it in a river or let the control box get drenched in a storm. You should be wary of setting it down on wet grass too. There are three pieces to join. The coil, the telescopic stem, and the handle. The control box is fixed to the handle already so no worries there. On the flip side, there are pricey metal detectors that require delicate handling and no parent wants to hand their child an expensive piece of kit only to see it broken or abandoned. The Garrett Euro Ace was made with the conditions of European soil in mind, so it performs well in many conditions.

It’s a good performer and the controls generally do what they say. I love the fact I could just switch it on and go, then later as my confidence improved I adjusted the sensitivity and eliminated drink can tabs. I know the detector cost quite a bit of money and it’s not a toy, so I’ll look after it and keep it safe in my wardrobe. I’m looking forward to going out in the summer when it is warm and finding more money or even some old coins from the Roman era.
