TV or sound system speakers can befuddle the Fire TV Cube’s built-in microphone, so make sure all speakers are at least 1 to 2 feet away from your Fire TV Cube. Imagine yourself in an amazing entertainment room. You've got your large, flat screen television, surround sound speaker system, and high-definition Blu-ray player. Much of your equipment is installed inside a heavy-duty console cabinet for storage underneath your television, preventing the room from looking overly cluttered. Add to this a comfortable couch, popcorn at the ready, and several infrared remotes on that side table right next to you. You may think you're all set, but what if you have trouble controlling your other connected devices with your remotes through the cabinet? What if you have additional speakers or perhaps an additional monitor in an adjacent room and your infrared signals just aren't strong enough to reach that far? Just the same, what if that console cabinet supporting your television and housing your Blu-ray player is made from heavy wood and fully encloses your equipment, making it difficult for the remote signals to reach everything? For any and all of these reasons, an infrared remote extender can help solve this problem for you. Barge-in: The microphone ignores whatever media the Alexa device is currently playing — such as a song or podcast — so that the microphone can more easily detect and recognize a simultaneous voice command (thus enabling that command to “barge in” on the playing media). Inside a tiny box, you will find a single cable with an IR receiver on one end and a 3.5mm gold-plated stereo plug on the other. The cable is 9ft long. In some cases, you may experience a tiny lag when trying to control your AV receiver. It’s not a dealbreaker, but it can be annoying.
Solution: An IR Extender can route the IR signal from your remote control so you are still able to control your theater even though it is out of the line of sight. Choosing an IR Extender An often overlooked problem is that people don’t have access to power when using an IR extender. If you don’t have any outlets, that is not a problem. We recommend the InjectIR- IR over HDMI. The Inject IR takes power from the HDMI and needs no external power source. Just plug and play over your already installed HDMI cable. Do I want a Wall Plate?
An IR Blaster can even be used with your computer and to control certain apps. And finally, in terms of benefits, it doesn’t require any additional power supply. It’s going to get just enough power from the Sony TV it’s plugged into.
Fire TV Cube runs through your devices, trying each time to detect the device automatically. If Fire TV Cube detects an incorrect device, be sure to choose No and then select the correct device from the list that appears. 14. When the equipment setup is complete, choose Continue. There is no noticeable delay when giving commands (changing the channel, stopping the video, etc.).

It uses a similar working principle as the previously reviewed StarTech IREXT2 but has a much cooler design. Things we like RC-MM is a newer IR protocol that was developed to be used with wireless keyboards and mice. The protocol uses much shorter waves than a typical IR signal and uses less power. Due to the shorter wave lengths and lower power some IR sensors are unable to process the signal. Inside a simple cardboard box, you will find two units labeled as receiver and transmitter, one IR extender probe (a piece of wire with an IR eye on its end), two power adapters, and a user manual.
