About this deal

Frances Hodgson Burnett was born in Manchester in 1849, the eldest daughter of a family which emigrated to America in 1865 after the father's death. Interested in making up stories from her childhood, Frances turned to writing professionally when the family's fortunes continued to decline in post-Civil-War Tennessee. She first won popular and critical success with her novel That Lass O' Lowries (1876-7), and consolidated it with a series of popular novels and plays. Little Lord Fauntleroy (1886) was the most successful in her own lifetime, but she is probably most admired today for her children's classics A Little Princess (1905) and The Secret Garden (1911). Two unhappy marriages marred Mrs Hodgson Burnett's private life but she became an American citizen in 1905 and settled in Long Island until her death in 1924.The Author King of the Cloud Forests" es una novela juvenil de Michael Morpurgo de 1987, y con dolor, porque me encanta este autor, he de reconocer que no me ha gustado. A classic and heartfelt war story from War Horse author and former Children's Laureate, Michael Morpurgo.

Michael Morpurgo has thrilled and delighted huge numbers of young readers since becoming a children’s author in the early 1970s," Wood said. "Action for Children’s Arts is delighted to recognise Michael’s outstanding contribution by presenting him with the J M Barrie Award 2016. His work will undoubtedly, like Peter Pan, stand the test of time, making him a truly worthy recipient of this award." You can also read about his life in War Child to War Horse,a collaborative biography with Maggie Fergusson. Escaping from China as the Japanese invade, Ashley and Uncle Sung embark on a perilous journey across the Himalayas. Then Ashley finds himself alone in the hostile mountains, battling for his life. He is just about to give up all hope, when he has a mysterious and terrifying encounter . . . King Of The Cloud Forests is an unassuming story at first glance, before it's unexpectedly weaved with myth and fantasy. What starts as a boy's introduction to the realities of war and loss in China becomes a reflective and wistful account of an arduous journey across the Himalayan mountains, the assimulation into and then loss of an intimate, unanticipated family, and the way this experience colours Ashley's perceptions of life in the unfamiliar civilisation of England. I only read one book of Morpurgo's before and I was excited to read more. Even though it was not as good as 'Private Peaceful', it still has some pleasant qualities. It is fast paced, unique and there a constant development between the characters. The ending was great.Michael Morpurgo is one of the most successful children's authors in the country, loved by children, teachers and parents alike. He has written more than forty books for children, including the global hit War Horse, which was made into a Hollywood film by Steven Spielberg in 2011.
