About this deal

Traditional breakfast cereals tend to be loaded with sugar and are low in both fibre and protein, a combination that will send you on a blood sugar rollercoaster. Instead, look for a cereal that is high in protein, low in sugar and rich in fibre – these are the three macronutrients to be looking for. Bonus points if you can find a cereal that contains lots of nuts and seeds, which add additional protein and fats to create a more balanced meal.” – Clarissa Steer Clear Of Sweeteners SOYA Protein Isolate, Tapioca Starch, Inulin (Chicory Root Fibre), Coconut Oil, Cocoa Powder, Natural Flavourings, Salt, Sweetener: Sucralose. ( Soya ) With 150 calories per serving along with 14g of protein, it’s the highest protein plant-based cereal I’ve come across.

Surreal’s high-protein versions are a good alternative to other traditional wheat-based hoops. “Traditional cereals are typically low in protein and high in refined carbs, so by making the swap, you’ll be setting your blood sugar up for the day,” says nutritionist Clarissa Lenherr. “The protein here comes from soya and pea protein – good-quality sources – and natural sweeteners such as stevia and erythritol are nutritionally sound, too.” Surreal’s cereals also contain inulin, which is naturally sweet and is a good source of fibre for your gut. “Just keep an eye on portion size,” says Clarissa. “Sugar alcohols such as erythritol can cause bloating and gas for those with IBS.” Sarah Henderson, nutritional therapist, also points out that the frosted version contains sucralose. “Sucralose is an artificial sweetener that’s best avoided,” she adds. For someone like me - diabetic so naturally low refined carb, higher protein and higher fat is the way to go The chocolate Misfits cereal is one of the best-smelling foods my nose has ever had the privilege of sniffing. If you love the combination of chocolate and cinnamon, you’re going to be horribly disappointed by this cereal. The smell of this cereal reminds me of a really strong evergreen air freshener, and the taste reminds me very much of Big Red gum because the cinnamon flavor is so strong. The NPD – which would not only target breakfastbut also midday and evening occasions – replicated “the sugary and non-nutritious cereal brands in the market, without the actual junk”, said Misfits. When you open the box, it smells like you just stepped into a bakery where all they bake are chocolate donuts topped with chocolate frosting. Misfits helped me to stay away from the regular chocolates full of sugar. I've been addicted to sugar since young age. Not anymore. However, the cinnamon tells a different story. In fact, the cinnamon flavor of this cereal is one of the most potent smelling and tasting cereals I’ve ever experienced. SOYA Protein Isolate, Tapioca Starch, Inulin (Chicory Root Fibre), Coconut Oil, Cocoa Powder, Natural Flavourings, Salt, Sweetener: Sucralose( Soya )

I suppose that’s why they don’t list the cup measurement alongside the weight measurement on this one.The chocolate Misfits cereal definitely improves in milk, but not substantially. That bitter aftertaste is almost completely eliminated when eaten with milk, which is awesome, but the overall chocolate flavor is still very much subpar. It had been created to target “mainly millennials and gen Z” shoppers who loved cereal but were “concerned about their health and what they consume”, the brand added. What can I say, misfits have really set the boundaries high for a vegan protein bar that provides 15g of protein and still taste epic like a ‘standard’ chocolate bar. Totally recommend even if you aren’t vegan! 🤩

Overall pretty bland protein bars. I find the product images and claims of oozing caramel layers a bit misleading, in reality the bars are pretty dry and you do not get that experience of oozing caramel. You also get the odd bar which has a chalky white texture to the chocolate. It's a shame because the branding is brilliant but the bar itself needs a serious rethink. I appreciate as a company you have your eyes fixed on America right now, but don't forget your loyal customers who got you there. Cereals like Weetabix and All Bran are wheat-based, which may seem like a healthy option, but wheat can irritate the gut and cause bloating. These big-brand cereals also all contain sugar. At the same time, wheat bran contains phytic acid (a natural substance found in wheat), which can prevent the absorption of certain nutrients such as calcium, magnesium, zinc and iron. If you enjoy these cereals, enjoy them sparingly and in small amounts.” – Kate Delmar-Morgan, nutritional therapist at the Institute for Optimum Nutrition Choose Granola Wisely

When I measured out a serving, I did realize that 40g of cereal is rather small. While that’s a typical serving size for cereal, since this one is so dense and compact, that 40g equates to very little volume. However, trying this cereal dry was very disappointing. Yes, you taste some chocolate, but it’s closer to the flavor of chocolate protein powder than it is actual cocoa powder. They are vegan, low in sugar and gluten-free. Each 40g serving provides 14g protein and weighs in at under 150 calories. Misfits is a very popular brand overseas, and they’re doing their best to break into the US market now as well.

I had heard amazing things about their protein bars, but as a lover of cereal, I needed to give their protein cereal a try first. Misfits co-founder Henry Sether said the NPD and rebrand would “widen our brand appeal and allow us to branch out into more categories and territories, cementing ourselves as a leading innovator in the plant-based functional food space across the globe”. Choc cinnamon does not smell or taste at all like chocolate. If you were to do a blind taste test, you’d never know that this was a chocolate flavor. Ideal for those looking for a nutritionally balanced start to the day, each bowl of Eleat contains 12.5g of protein, 10.5g of fibre and just 1g of sugar. All four flavours are free from gluten and suitable for vegans, too. “Eleat offers a complete source of protein,” adds Sarah. “It uses a unique blend of plant protein from soy and sunflower and contains all nine essential amino acids that can’t be made by the body. The cereal is sweetened with stevia, a natural sweetener, and contains rosemary extract, which is an antioxidant and keeps the product fresher for longer. However, steer clear of the strawberry flavour – it contains maltodextrin, which can spike blood sugar and offers no nutritional value.” An overwhelming number of food products that claim to be healthy are made with artificial sweeteners – this means brands can make claims about a cereal being low-sugar whilst still tasting sweet. However, regular consumption of artificial sweeteners has been linked to changes in the gut microbiome and they are something I advise my clients to actively avoid. At the same time, look out for real sugar on an ingredients label, which can be disguised as cane juice, dextrose, isoglucose, jaggery, maltose and barley malt.” – Clarissa Watch Out For WheatMisfits cereal is very crunchy, has decent flavor overall, and has an impressive amount of protein per serving. Being 100% vegan, low sugar, and high protein, I have to admit that my expectations for the cereal going into this review were extremely low.
