About this deal

I do think that many of these craft gin distilleries are likely to have barrels of rum and/or whisky sleeping away in the corner somewhere, not to be disturbed for years. But gin allowed them to go from still to shelf in months. And that means dollars to the distillery. There was a time when it was unthinkable to drink gin straight. These days, there are so many weird and wonderful ones, and such a higher level of quality, that there are plenty which qualify. Lighter than most Sloe Gins, Da Mhile has a Christmas theme, which means the base gin used has aromas of nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves. Lovely festive liqueur!

I will confess that the first time I heard mention of a gin called Monkey 47 I assumed it must fall very much in the novelty category. Then I got to try it and it has been my favorite gin ever since, albeit often hard to find in Australia. Spices, florals, lemon notes, orange rind. We are told that lingonberries make a major contribution. Possibly, but I have no idea what a lingonberry looks like or how one tastes. This gin is no shrinking violet, but is powerful and very long. Richly flavored, finely balanced, very complex. Refreshing, almost biting acidity, but it is never intrusive. Over time, it's not just established itself as one of the biggest names in the Gin category, it's become the brand that so many other producers look towards as a reference point for how to position a "premium" offering.Tadım Notları:Burunda ve damakta kırmızı meyve karakteri belirgin. Burunda kırmızı meyveler aromalarına çam ve taze kokular eşlik ediyor. Damakta meyvemsi ve bol baharatlı. Bitişte vişne ve fındık. After the end of world war II, British Wing commander Montgomery 'Monty' Collins from the Royal Air Force was stationed in the British part of Berlin. In his free time, he supported the reconstruction of the city. He was especially dedicated to the rebuilding of the Berlin Zoo. Through this work, he came to a sponsorship of an egret monkey called Max.

Monkey 47 is a Gin brand with a unique history. It's hard to tell if all parts of the story are true or if some bits and pieces are deliberately spread to embellish the legend. With the new set up, they have continued to apply the combination of macerating some of the botanicals along with vapour infusing others in a multi-shot process, although they do this now in a slightly different way. By re-positioning the steam baskets and developing custom distillation apparatus, they can, in particular, isolate just the right amounts of volatile aromas, bringing them individually to the fore and carefully combining them to produce the perfect blend.

Made to an old family recipe where sloes are steeped in Hayman’s Gin for several months before sugar is added. Deliciously fruity with notes of plum and a hint of nuttiness. It sounds pretty straightforward with only three ingredients, yet there is a wide range of flavours available. It all comes down to the length of the maceration, the amount of sugar, the strength, and the amount of fruit used, as well as the different botanicals used in the gin. And of course, the quality of the gin matters too! Take it sloe with these brands Before we get to that stage, though, it is worth noting the positive boost gin received from its collaboration with tonic, with tonic’s component of quinine a key in the fight against malaria. Who among us has not seen one of those old movies with pith-helmeted colonialists enjoying their evening G&Ts? Enjoyable, sure, but it also worked as a prophylactic against one of the most debilitating diseases in the tropics. Yet, even if there are a few question marks behind the story, the quality of the Gin is outstanding.

To realise his dream, he partnered with distiller Christoph Keller, who was renowned for his fruit brandies and also drawn by the challenge. Montgomery Collins’ Gin was to be reborn ! The extraordinary cavalcade of craft spirits soon followed and gin led the way, although, to be honest, I have always believed that many of these gin producers originally wanted to make top whisky or perhaps even rum, but discovered that the time needed for these to mature meant that they would not be releasing anything for years. It was an impossible task on a commercial basis. The letter contained personal notes, photographs, and information on the recipe for the Gin. Below, there was a monkey sketch and a message saying: Max the Monkey – Schwarzwald Dry Gin. As I type I have a Bombay Sapphire and tonic beside me, but last year I went on a “gin quest”, which included Monkey 47. It did not agree with me. I liked the taste very much, but something in the recipe made me feel strange and a bit ill. Monkey 47 has an honored place in our household. As a Martini with Dolin, a G&T, or even a Tom Collins. I can’t drink another gin now, barring the odd Tanqueray 10 Martini with a twist of lemon!Do you like Sloe Gin? Which brand do you prefer? I would love to know how you like to serve yours, so please leave your tips in the comments below.

Initially made for medicinal purposes, gin gets most of its flavor from the juniper berries added after the distillation process. It sure has come a long way from the Middle Ages, with the introduction of new botanicals, fruits, and spices, bringing it closer to people of all flavor varieties. According to Winston Churchill, "The gin and tonic has saved more Englishmen's lives and minds than all the doctors in the Empire," referring to the British officers using it to treat malaria in India. However, what happened to him after the early 1960s is unknown. Only when his former inn underwent renovation by a third party, an old wooden box was found inside. Inside it: A bottle of Gin and a letter.

Monkey 47 is a beautifully complex spirit, combining various aromas and flavors. It's a fresh and fruity spirit with unexpected yet pleasant nuances. The ingredients for making this gin are steeped in French-made molasses alcohol for 36 hours prior to being distilled through an Arnold Holstein copper-pot still. Keller combines traditional maceration and distillation techniques, as well as vapor infusing certain ingredients, to gather precise amounts of the more volatile botanicals and accentuate more sublime flavors.
