About this deal

Nomad Outland Whisky is an unusual whisky; it is produced and aged for a certain amount of time in Scotland before being shipped top Jerez in Spain for a further period of ageing. Therefore it cannot be called Scotch Whisky and the producers have come up with the term Outland Whisky. Most Scotch Whisky is aged in sherry cask and this brand is owned by Gonzalez Byass, so perhaps this is not such quite a surprising synergy after all. The ageing in these barrels make the whisky unique. The century old winery in Jerez is subject to changing temperatures, humidity, and maritime influences and imbued with the native yeasts that are so unique to the cellars gives Nomad its particular and incomparable personality. Our Service is an online platform which provides Members with information (e.g. bottle facts, market-indices, market values and prices) on (mostly) whisky and allows Members to add information to the platform. We do not sell, nor does the Service provide any option to buy, any alcoholic products.

Whiskey Review: Nomad Outland - The Whiskey Wash

The use of previously filled sherry butts in the aging of Scotch whisky has long been a ubiquitous feature of the Scotch industry. Historically, the practice was largely reserved for single malts. Macallan, GlenDronach and Balvenie were among the better-known distilleries that offered expressions that had been exclusively matured in one or more combinations of 500-liter sherry butts. Other distilleries offered expressions that had been “finished” from two months to two years in such sherry butts. Nomad is an innovative new concept in whisky – Outland Whisky. Nomad is created with a unique ageing process beginning in Scotland and finishing in Jerez. Compass Box released a small quantity (3,439 bottles) of its Great King St. Experimental Batch (Sherry Finish, #00-V4) Blended Scotch Whisky, 50cl, 43% ABV.

Deanston is a sometimes overlooked Highlands distillery that has an excellent range of single malts, including some organic expressions and this limited release 20YO. The whisky was matured in Oloroso sherry casks for two decades, and bottled at cask strength without color added or chill-filtration. There are notes of dried fruit and vanilla on the palate, followed by a hint of baking spice and prune.

Nomad, un Whisky Suave y Elegante | González Byass

This is a nice smooth warming christmas cake of a dram where he cook good distracted and kept pouring.. You could drink this all night.... i might just do that. A bit of Greek brandy in the flavour profile, PX sweetness and so much sherry its hard to compare.. Great value for money. No partnership, joint venture, agency, or employment relationship is created as a result of your use of the Service. The finish is long, refined, and complex, and features a succession of sweet dried fruit notes set against a creamy texture highlighted by hints of walnut and tropical spice. This is an excellent, very approachable blended whisky, showing good integration and a smoothness and a degree of complexity that belies its relatively young age. It would make a superb after dinner dram, yet could equally accompany a rich bisque or a spicy entree. Served over ice or with a bit of water it would serve just as well as an aperitif. Conclusion: Not technically a Scotch whisky (since the final barrel aging and bottling takes place outside of Scotland), Nomad Outland is a blend of around 30 malt and grain whiskies from the Speyside region of Scotland (where Macallan, The Glenlivet, Aberlour and other classics are based). They age in ex-bourbon casks in northern Scotland between two and five years, then transfer to ex-Oloroso sherry casks for three more years. And then the blend travels to Jerez, Spain (sherry’s ancestral home) to rest another year in very freshly seasoned ex-Pedro Ximénez casks in the Nomad cellars of the González Byass wineries. We may sell, license, transfer, assign or in any other way dispose of the Service (including Members) to any third party without any notification to you, e.g. (but without limitation) in connection with any reorganization, restructuring, merger or sale, or other transfer of assets. Highly recommended. If you are a fan of Spanish brandy, like a sweeter Scotch, and appreciate the added complexity that a sherry finish provides, then you will find Nomad Outland Whisky an excellent addition to a “Scotch” whisky library even if it is not technically a Scotch. If your tastes run towards “peat monsters,” then it’s best to look elsewhere.
