About this deal

Tone is what matters though, and so if you want to capture the legendary Klon tones on a budget, the Horseman could make a great choice. It has the’ transparent’ overdrive, the warm and rich drive tones, and the ability to enhance the sound of any guitar and amp combination. A UK-built, dual klone that combines two identical, cascaded circuits (charge pump, buffer intact) so that you can use one channel for boost and one for overdrive – or use it however else you prefer. NUX based this model on Keeley Katana and although it’s not as good as the original, considering the low price of Lacerate, it’s definitely worth it.

As such, unlike most of the pedals listed here (and also unlike the original Klon Centaur) – the Oxblood has a very wide gain range. It can go from an open and transparent vintage sounding drive, through to a heavy overdrive that verges on the sound of fuzz. Its 18v circuit, combined with a circuit optimized to minimize compression, made it extremely dynamic. It could be used as a supplement, or as the focal point of a rig, and many famous players loved it as a clean boost and many others as an “amp-in-a-box.” The point being, it excelled at everything. Considering its low price, it’s definitely one of the most interesting budget chorus pedals available on the market right now.

A version of the popular Archer with six graphic EQ sliders instead of a tone knob, developed by guitarist Steve Stevens. Each slider controls 18dB of cut or boost at 6 different frequencies. Finally, the original had a massive enclosure, so as always, we tend to say that size should be one of the most important considerations. After all, if you can't fit it on your 'board, it doesn't matter how good it sounds! You can find yourself believing that only the ‘real deal’ will do the job. Or you can find yourself poring over guitar forums, studying the minute details that guitarists believe they hear between different ‘Klones’. Like the NUX Horseman and the original Wampler Tumnus, the Sugar Drive is housed in a small enclosure. It also features a simple 3 knob design and is based closely on the original Klon circuit. All in all I'm delighted with this pedal and it has become my favourite go-to effect in the few weeks that I've had it. II think it's a bit of a hidden gem, perhaps dismissed by many because its not from one of the big name brands but it's definitely staying on my pedalboard for sure.

2023 UPDATE: Best Klon Centaur Clones: Replicas And

True/Buffer Bypass– There is an optional bypass mode enabling the signal to be untouched when this stompbox is disengaged. If you are going to be using your Klon style pedal a lot, then I would suggest opting for one of the top-end, hand made clones. It will be made with higher quality components and is likely to be sturdier and more robust. Coming in at not far off the price of a cheap Tube Screamer imitation, the Ibanez Tube Screamer Mini is the definition of a bargain. NUX Recto is a really cool budget distortion pedal which offers a tone similar to the classic high-gain from the ’90s. I never have to think about strumming patterns – it’s all taken care of because the motor is always going”: Cory Wong is the modern king of funk guitar – he shares his tips for tightening up your rhythm playingOverall, it does the job and it’s not too expensive – who needs anything else? Considering the relatively low price, it’s definitely one of the most affordable compressors available on the market right now. There are three delay types: ’60s tape delay, ’70s analog delay and ’80s digital delay. In addition, there are three different types of reverb: spring, plate and hall. There’s also a really interesting shimmer effect, which kind of reminds me of the Fender Marine Layer Reverb.

To our ears, it's still one of the fizzier distortions, and we wish it had some more volume on tap, but we can't deny that thisBoss pedalis a classic. For many, the Boss DS-1 was their first pedal, and at this price point, it's easy to see why it's still so popular. It's easy to use, sounds fantastic, and is extremely robust! In comparison with the previous chorus pedal, NUX Rivulet seems to a really interesting alternative, although it’s a bit more expensive. One of the few mini-klones available on the market (at least for now), the MXR Sugar Drive simplicity is deceptive. The drive knob in this circuit blends the clean guitar signal with the overdriven one as you turn it up, while the circuit’s headroom in increased through what is referred to as a “Charge Pump.” A switch lets you choose between bypass or MXR’s buffered bypass.
