About this deal

You won’t regret investing in this brand because it can be utilized for both saltwater and freshwater tanks and it is a certified first rate tool for refilling water and cleaning the aquarium. Needless to say, we all prefer to do cleaning and refilling water in an aquarium less cumbersome to deal with, so with this product you can finally achieve and experience that. You actually raise a very interesting point, I have not heard of anyone using the hook like that. The purpose of the hook is so you don’t have to worry about the hose and gravel vacuum falling out of your tank when you refill. I have a 100 gal, 24” tall tank and a125 gal, 6’ long tank. I do frequent 50-80%water changes plus total tear-downs as necessary. I assumed the hook could be lengthened to enable deep hands-free water changes with ease. Instead it drapes just a few inches over the tanks.

While Aqueon offers a larger siphon tube, sold separately, it only adds an extra 18 inches to the handle. There are two different types of gravel cleaners commonly used in aquariums… 1. Siphon-style gravel vacuumsPlace the intake tube into the aquarium. This must be immersed in the aquarium water. You could even allow the intake tube to sit underneath the aquarium while you install the other stuff in the procedure. Note that it is not ideal for draining the tank into a sink that you and your loved ones use. Many commercial gravel vacuums utilize transparent tubes; nonetheless, garden hoses function more exceptionally for do-it-yourself vacuums. Other materials needed are duct tape, scissors and silicone. One end of the T fitting will attach to an adapter, and that goes to the faucet. The other end will have the shut off valve on it and the ‘T’ in the middle has the pressure rated filler hose attached. I won’t know if it will work until I try it but, I am hopeful. IMPORTANT: Please note, the brass adaptor shown in some photographs of the Python products are found on the US versions only and is not included in the UK version. The UK version comes with an equivalent plastic adaptor which fits standard 3/4 inch (19mm) threads found on most UK outdoor taps, as well as a rubber universal adaptor. But what we really liked was the ability to swap out to a larger gravel tube to get to the bottom of deep tanks. What we didn’t like…

So long as you know the size of your current tank, it is easy to determine the right size for your tank water changer. You raise an excellent point and it is one often debated in the community, when to add the dechlorinator and how harmful is it? Unfortunately, to the best of my knowledge, it hasn’t been studied and we can only go off anecdotal evidence. As already briefly discussed, the tank water changer is especially necessary for two vital reasons and these include: The good news is that you can get parts to make your own and you can have the ultimate in flexibility for hose length, valves, and the fill/siphon fitting in your tank! Building Your Own Python Type Water Changer: It cannot be denied that weekly water change for your aquarium plays a very vital role in making your tank occupants happy and healthy. However, it is also undeniable that dealing with such kind of task can be annoying specifically if you have a very hectic schedule.

I made a DiY python hose buying hose attachments from local hardware stores or online for not a lot of money and 10 meters of clear hose from LFS , attached with a universal 600lph pump. This Python aquarium water changer is a good catch since it is built to serve as an exhaustive ready-to-utilize system. The hose is 25-feet long which is more than adequate to reach any faucet or any kitchen sink from where your fish tank is- this means that it is quite convenient and transportable to use. Don’t get me wrong, Aqueon is more than capable of making great aquarium products. Their Aqueon Pro is one of the best aquarium heaters available on the market.

While it is reassuring that all 5 manufacturers believe that this is the best design for a water changer, it made life considerably more difficult when it came to ranking them from best to worst. Given that most brands use plastic faucet adapters, it would hardly be an expensive addition to include them in the box.

Python makes a wide range of exceptional water changing products. Best of all, they are manufactured right here in the United States. If you don’t want to use the gravel tube, it can be removed, allowing you to position the hose to drain water from your tank instead. We also liked the design of the handle used to clean and fill the aquarium. Even more so than Python’s. After considerable research the only thing I’ve been able to find is an AquaClear Extension Tube for Power Filters (w/integrated strainer) which slips over the Python Hook by about an inch, adding 5-1/2” to the hook, allowing max 25-30% water changes. It would take about 3 of them plus the hook to reach full depth.

Also, there is not much flexibility in the attachment you put on the aquarium as their kits only come with the gravel vacuum. I don’t have much need to vacuum the gravel in our planted tank and was interested in something smaller that fit the scale of our nano Fluval Spec V. You can use the assembly for a while before you glue it together; the press-fit is usually plenty strong to hold together and won’t leak. Honestly, I have been using this for almost a year and I still haven’t glued it together. We did like that Marina included a brass faucet adapter in the box because it won’t wear down like an adapter made from plastic.
