Tiagra brakes have also seen a good amount of improvement and an increase in stopping power. However, they aren't of the same quality as 105. Tiagra is a really impressive groupset. It does everything you want from a mid-level road bike with only a few minor quibbles. The biggest decision is whether you're really fussed about having the 11-speed of Shimano's more expensive 105. A key difference between 105 and Tiagra is that the 105 is intended for 11-speed and the large chainring has teeth between 46 and 53. The other major difference between the two groupsets is that the 105 brakes are considerably better than Tiagra ones. They are a real highlight both in terms of all-out power and fingertip control. I have a barrel adjuster on the down tube so, with careful pretensioning of the cable, I've been able to adjust the indexing with travel to spare in the event of stretch. Tiagra 4700 is the latest groupset from Shimano to get a makeover, and in doing so it has made Tiagra the best it's ever been. It does indeed use the same pull ‘ratio’ as 11 speed, but the actual amount of cable it pulls is different to both traditional Shimano 10 speed road and Shimano 11 speed road.
