About this deal

But the police, the family, the townspeople—they all seem to be hiding something. And the deeper Margot digs into Natalie’s disappearance, the more resistance she encounters, and the colder January’s case feels. Could the killer still be out there? Could it be the same person who kidnapped Natalie? And what will it cost to finally discover what truly happened that night? While in Billy’s house, Margot sees a photo of January holding her baby blanket, the one Jace said she was clutching when he found her at the bottom the stairs. The January Jones case is awfully similar to the Jon Benet Ramsey case in so many ways that even the super fans were disappointed by it. I wont go into it… but the parallels are glaringly obvious. 🙄 And does Jodie think Dave is responsible for all the murders? (January, Krissy, and the other girls?) What was the deal with Dave/Luke?

Luke (Dave) Davies: Margot’s uncle. He is his fifties, a widower suffering from early onset dementia. Biological father of January and Jase Jacobs. But after what happened to January, WHY did Dave/Luke never say anything about this to Krissy or the police or anyone? WHY? Due to his dementia, we will never know. Maybe he told his brother Adam (Margot’s father) leading to his alcoholism. (Just a joke. Sort of.) Each case included written threats. In the JBR case, a rambling ransom letter was found. January’s kitchen was painted with threatening graffiti. After a moment, Margot heard the plunk of a dead bolt, then the door creaked slowly, barely, open. Her pasted-on smile faltered. She inhaled a shaky breath. Her face felt wobbly with sudden emotion as though her features were distorting and melting with it.”Darlie Routier insists she was wrongly convicted of her children’s murders and denies the theory that she staged a fake crime scene (and gravely injured herself) to cover up her alleged involvement. Let me start off by saying that for the most part, I really enjoyed this read. I think Ashley did a great job keeping the reader engaged (in my case anyways). I also really enjoyed how the plot unraveled by switching between story lines. Book Genre: Adult, Contemporary, Crime, Drama, Fiction, Mystery, Mystery Thriller, Suspense, Thriller But she wanted the truth, an explanation to why he’d been in that photo at January’s recital, and these financial documents weren’t” Krissy’s secret lover Jodie wrote all the warning notes and messages. In 2009, after Krissy confided in Jodie that she had been the one to stage January’s death as a murder, Krissy says she’s going to tell Dave the truth.

Because we don’t compare the two cases, past and present throughout the narrative, I didn’t feel any sense of TENSION, like I usually do with CRIME FICTION. Billy killed January. Longer explanation below, but he’d accidentally injured her, thinking she was Krissy. When she started yelling “Daddy, why did you hurt me,” he killed her to keep her quiet. is this a terrible book? no. but do i think this would have been published if AF wasnt a well-known true crime podcaster? also no. January Jacobs, went missing from her home one night in 1994. Her body was discovered in a ditch less than two miles from the Jacobs home.I hope you will join the Spoiler Discussion for All Good People Here! Talk to me in comments! What did you think of the book, the ending, all of it? Do you listen to podcasts? Let’s discuss this! You can also read my review of All Good People Here! This case took place in the late 80s in the Midwest, and I was not familiar with it, but is a truly horrible and heartbreaking story. I won’t waste time going into the plot, but apparently, writing podcast episodes is very different from writing a novel, because this story never got off the ground. The author did capture the small town atmosphere, but the mystery itself was a replay of the Jon Benet Ramsey case. I had high expectations that someone who works in true crime could come up with something a bit more original and compelling. What fell short for me was the various characters that seem to come and go and the reader had no idea to where or why. The ending was a tad (really enormously) ridiculous and made the story even more convoluted that added a large question mark as to the mystery's solution. But more than just the town, what was making Margot’s heart pound now was what version of her uncle she was going to get tonight. The real one. Or the bad one.

Margot forced out a laugh as she rushed into his open arms, but her throat felt tight. She’d never get used to the fear that she’d finally lost him for good. I have a lot of respect for the author’s accomplishments and success, and it gives me no pleasure to hand out a 2-star review. I didn’t enjoy this, but I would love to see the author write a nonfiction book on true crime.
