When she doesn’t want to sleep with him or be intimate, he barely resists and blames her for all his shit and how he’s not good enough for her (because he clearly isn’t) and how she has her shit together (because obviously, she does as she’s not lazy and she’s also not a loser like him. Harsh, I know). Baby's 1st Birthday | First Birthday Book for BOYS | Personalized Children's Book, My Very Happy Birthday He was barely there when she needed him, always partying and cheating. always makes her do all the chores in the house because he has a hangover or is out partying. Penelope Douglas did a great job writing this one because Birthday Girl💗 was everything and more! I mean, let's talk about Pike and Jordan and their incredible ✨ chemistry ✨ disfruté este libro mucho más que la primera vez que lo leí. sentí el ritmo completamente necesario dada la trama. daddy pike, tkm

One thing I did like were the descriptions. Melissa de la Cruz knows how to write about rich people and their lifestyle. I’ve read many of her books and that is a constant throughout a lot of them. I loved reading the descriptions of all the rich people at Ellie’s birthday party. They were hilarious; it was like watching a reality tv show. Ellie seems to have it all: the perfect husband, 4 beautiful children, a booming career, and more houses than she knows what to do with. Now it’s her 40th birthday and she’s invited everyone who’s anyone to attend her extravagant bash. The Birthday Girl is not a thriller. The Birthday Girl is a shallow book with a plastic main character and a plot that doesn't know if it wants to be a thriller or a social scandal thriller. You are not missing out by not reading it. Would I recommend it? No.I would call this more of a mystery than a thriller for it having multiple POVs and time periods that are intended to set up the “unexpected” twist (although frequent readers of the domestic “thriller” genre would expect). But it isn’t really a thriller, so if you’re going to be disappointed that it isn’t just skip it.

I love forbidden romance and taboo love stories. I love when there is a great slow burn and the sexual tension is so freaking high your siting on pins and needles just waiting and waiting for that one moment… I love angst and when two people have undeniable chemistry, even when it’s obvious they shouldn’t. When there is push and pull and you are completely on the edge of your seat. Seriously, there is nothing better. This book had all this and more in spades. The Birthday Girl is sort of a combination between Contemporary Women's Fiction and a thriller. However to me the thriller/suspense part only really happens towards the very end. This is my first book by this author. PS: my opinion from 2019 still stands. 50% of this is made up of random little details that still confuse me on their relevance. Jordan is a strong and independent woman. She may be only nineteen, but she’s a hard worker and wise beyond her years. Her boyfriend Cole... not so much. He gets them in a bit of a tough spot and they end up moving in with Cole’s father, Pike. Oh Pike… I freaking loved Pike. Everything about him. Pike is 38. He’s a great man and wants to help out his son. The sparks between Pike and Jordan fly, even though neither one wants that. Gah. It’s insane. You just need to read it for yourself to see how this one turns out…

Book Review: Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas – A Bookworm Book Review: Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas – A Bookworm

As the days go by, though, it’s becoming anything but easy. I have to stop my mind from drifting to her and stop holding my breath every time I bump into her in the house. I can’t touch her, and I shouldn’t want to. Dicho esto...The Birthday Girl by Melissa De La Cruz is a fun yet dark novel that had an ease to the reading. While I was less interested in the present story, I found myself engaging with Leo and Mish, wanting to discover their complex lives and personalities. Each family holds secrets and it is not until the end that we discover the depths of the two girl's endurance. Ellie has come a long way. She is married to Todd (he also has a 3rd person POV) and they have four kids. She has a fancy fashion line. But can she afford this expensive party? In the past Leo is poor and struggling. So it was interesting to see the change in lifestyle. I didn't really like this one that much...not necessarily because of the age gap; my parents have almost 9 years between them, but because of the maturity of the characters, and their suitability for each other. I just didn't find it a believable relationship. My sister once told me there are no good men, and if you find one, he’s probably unavailable. Only Pike Lawson isn’t the unavailable one. It’s always the same wish. Every candle. Every time. I want a life I never want to take a vacation from. That’s my goal."

The advice, the words of wisdom were so precious. He could be your friend yet he can also be the protective figure, someone you can rely on eyes closed. Penelope Douglas is a New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal bestselling author. Their books have been translated into nineteen languages and include The Fall Away Series, The Devil’s Night Series, and the stand-alones, Misconduct, Punk 57, Birthday Girl, Credence, and Tryst Six Venom. Please look for The Hellbent Series, coming next.Overall, everything about this novel is just meant to be read and thoroughly enjoy. If you are an individual with an age gap issue, then skip this book. However, if you are interested I recommend hoping on this bad boy and riding it like there is no tomorrow. One thing is for sure that has me excited for more books by Pen, her surprise reveal of Motel is coming our way, and Danni (the female main character) will definitely have me on the verge of mystery behind her story. Thank you so much to Penelope for sending me a copy of her novel, one in which I am looking forward to re-reading in the future because this girl finds her forbidden fruit something to absolutely cherish. I was really looking forward to reading this book because I love Melissa de la Cruz’s books. However, this book wasn’t as good as I expected it to be. he never made an effort to apologize to Jordan for all the shit he put her through!!! And he got mad because his father and her got together at the end? Like, I get it, it's weird as hell and I would be uncomfortable too but for real though? Does he even have the right? He screwed up so many times and instead of Pike and Jordan being sorry, he should be the one who is sorry. I honestly don't think he deserved their kindness, and when they forgave him so easily, I was just so frustrated because I wanted him to literally EXPLAIN himself and APOLOGIZE to them for being a shitty son and boyfriend. But did he do that? nooooooooo. Instead, he ran away, barely made an effort with both of them, NEVER said sorry to them, and made himself look like the victim. ugh. I literally feel no remorse for him. He took me in when I had nowhere else to go. He doesn’t use me, hurt me, or forget about me. He listens to me, protects me, and sees me. I can feel his eyes on me over the breakfast table, and my heart pumps so hard when I hear him pull in the driveway after work. Keep collections to yourself or inspire other shoppers!
