About this deal

Thank you so much Sabrina at Del Ray and Penguin Random House for sending me an ARC of this book I am so grateful. Next shift can finish. Aren’t going anywhere without helium and the reactor fixed anyway. Call it.”

Snetiker, Marc (December 30, 2014). " Golden Son (2015)". Entertainment Weekly . Retrieved January 30, 2015. In February 2014, shortly after the release of Red Rising, Universal Pictures acquired the rights for a film adaptation in a 7-figure auction. [14] Marc Forster is set to direct, with Brown writing the screenplay. [14] [15] Brown told Entertainment Weekly that after completing the original trilogy, "I took a meager little break, mostly to stretch my screenwriting muscles." [16] As of February 2016, the film was still in development, with Brown having written the first two drafts. [17] He said in March 2016, "I have written the first two drafts of the film and now we're on the third. Hopefully it will be greenlit this year. The vision from the film makers is ' Lawrence of Arabia in space', which is terribly exciting for me as it's my favorite film." [18] The rights eventually reverted to Brown, [19] and in January 2018, Brown said he was developing Red Rising as a television series. [19] [20] Brown confirmed in October 2018 that the project had a director and a showrunner, and added that the film rights had also been resold to an unspecified studio. I thought of that quote from TDK when I was probably about halfway through the book. Darrow's transgressions on his way to saving the planets and people are being aired out in Light Bringer. I like what was done with Sevro, Darrow, and Cassius this time. Honestly, my favorite thing about LB was Casssius and Darrow's relationship. In previous books I liked how Sevro and Darrow were connected, but Cassius was my top character for this one. At one point, I thought Lysander would be redeemed, or maybe a little more likeable by the end of the book. Man, was I wrong. He also made me think of Draco Malfoy. Yet, I had some respect for Draco by the time HP ended. LP was a nice setup for the ending in Red God. By the end of the book, I felt how I did when certain characters died in Game of Thrones. This book was good in the way that Brown is always good. It’s got the action and excitement you would expect, and the twists and turns you don’t (but also do, because they’re always there). Combined Print & E-Book Fiction – August 17, 2019". The New York Times. August 17, 2019 . Retrieved August 10, 2019. I can’t and won’t forgive Brown for killing a character that I love. I won’t say who and I saw it coming, but I’m still displeased. A good arc for that character, though. More than a decade separated from Olympia’s airy sepulchres has done little to dim Cassius’s spectacular talent for condescension. Worst of all, in typical Cassius fashion, he’s taking his damn time. Six weeks he’s been gone on a mission to Starhold—an ecliptic trade post between the orbits of Mercury and Venus—to secure us the helium we need for the Archimedes. While here I am: either languishing in the old Sons of Ares base that’s hidden in the belly of the trash moon or latched onto the side of his ship like an industrious barnacle welding the days away, knowing time is running out. In a word, Golden Son is stunning. Among science fiction fans, it should be a shoo-in for book of the year.” — TordotcomThis took me way longer than it should have. 37 days to be exact. I think its partly due to not wanting to finish and have to wait another year for book 7. Though the larger is reason is it was a LOT to digest. Sarner, Lauren (February 4, 2016). "Pierce Brown Knows Mars the Planet and Mars the God". Inverse . Retrieved January 28, 2017.

Unlike the previous two novels, Which had multiple narrators for the audiobook, Light Bringer is only narrated by Tim Gerard Reynolds. But it all starts to become unraveled when you realize you are reading about these extremely experienced and literally hand crafted beings of battle coupled with the supposed greatest minds in the systems and yet they are constantly being duped by betrayal. So. I’ve had this feeling since Iron Gold that Pierce is setting up the death of the Reaper, and the title of book 7 does not give me much hope to the contrary. My hubby thinks Sevro will have to kill him (I think that notion is ridiculous lol), but he hasn’t read Light Bringer and Darrow has more or less found redemption for all of the horrible shit he’s done. And I was so happy to see that redemption – I was losing faith in him, and it absolutely broke my heart. Something else I was ecstatic to see was the catharsis between Darrow and Sevro. They are my BROTP!!! I haaaated seeing them fight, and their dissonance the last couple of books has been killing me a little. Sevro is my absolute favorite character of the whole entire series (very closely followed by Victra) and I neeeeed him to not die in the next book. View Spoiler » Speaking of Sevro, the scene where he found out that Ulysses died broke me :( « Hide Spoiler Overall Assessment

Pierce writes the unexpected and it works and holds up so well through the years. You can very much see the tragic flaws of each character throughout reading his works and so when you reach the end of the book, you know the kind of trauma to expect but you don't exactly know what's going to happen so it still will hit you like a sledgehammer. As Pierce does so damn well, there’s a knife twist at the end that sets the series hurtling toward its conclusion. This book reminded me why I loved this world, these characters, and that bloodydamn Pierce Brown in the first place. So begins Darrow’s long voyage home, an interplanetary adventure where old friends will reunite, new alliances will be forged, and rivals will clash on the battlefield. Yes, the war is waging on, there are moments of military campaigns that are well played out here that Pierce describes in breathtaking prose. Yet it’s the human moments, interludes with characters, glimpses of their hearts and souls that make Lighbringer sing. Sheehan, Jason (January 11, 2015). " Golden Son Is Space Opera That Doesn't Forget The Opera". NPR . Retrieved January 28, 2017.

A] thoughtful blend of action, intrigue, and prosaic human drama.” — Publishers Weekly (starred review) Lysander longs to destroy the Rising and restore the supremacy of Gold, and will raze the worlds to realize his ambitions. Just as the title suggests it’s starting to get a bit silly. I love the characters and the writing is well done on the level of how it makes you feel as if you could be there. The descriptions used, the details, the dialogue all inspires emotion. Was it worth the four year wait after Dark Ages? Abso-freakin-loutely. While not as gut-wrenching and nail-biting as the Dark Ages, it delivered all that I hoped for, and more. Brown scaled the story down and focused on these two men who have journeyed so far. The world and the war Brown has created comes to life in vivid 3D. He hits home on the sacrifices, the greed, the sheep and the loss. His characters have a genuineness to them and consistently stay true to themselves as they evolve and grow. I feel as if I know them and share their experiences and emotions. I should mention that I also feel enraged by the actions of some, from self-serving greed to the hierarchy and trappings of the colors. I mull that over as I weld a new panel onto the hull. Maybe this is just a stepping stone. Maybe this place isn’t perdition. Maybe it is a gift.Pierce Brown does it again. I am stunned and heartbroken and I feel like my brain has been pushed through the tiniest holes of a cheese grater.
