About this deal

Five promo cards for Deception: Murder in Hong Kong, including three means cards and two clue cards. Secondary language on these cards are Korean instead of Chinese. Find out who among you can cut through deception to find the truth and who is capable of getting away with murder! The Witness is an optional role when playing with six or more players.* The Witness is an Investigator who has witnessed the culprits leaving the crime scene. They have no way of knowing which is the Murderer and which is the Accomplice and they do not know how the crime was committed. The Forensic Scientist then gives the Lab Technician a thumbs up if the card selected was the Clue or Means card used in the murder and a thumbs down if it was not.

Thanks for a great review. My wife and I enjoy deduction games but we don’t necessarily get into the “social deduction” games (werewolf and the like) but this one keeps getting so much great buzz I’m sure we’re going to have to try it out sometime. 🙂 Reply The forensic scientist will reveal themselves immediately. Then, players will close their eyes and the murderer will reveal themselves to the forensic scientist and indicate their means of murder and key evidence using the cards in front of them. Throughout the game, the forensic scientist will use the clue tiles to try to help the investigators guess these two things. Each investigator only gets one guess (handing in their badge in the process) and the murderer wins if nobody can guess both their means of murder and key evidence. Each round, the forensic scientist can use one more clue card, and each player gets 30 seconds to put forward their arguments. In your first game, it is recommended to assign the role of the "Forensic Scientist" to the most expressive player. 3. Badge Tokens Deception: Murder in Hong Kong is a great gateway game for those that have never played social deduction games before. The concept of the genre can be a little confusing and the mechanisms of a few other titles, such as Secret Hitler, can be a little difficult to follow for newbies on the first couple of plays. The Witness, on the other hand, is on the side of the Investigators and, during the Committing the Crime phase, is told by the Forensic Scientist who the Murderer and Accomplice (if there is one) are. However, at the end of the game, the Murderer and Accomplice can attempt to guess who the Witness is. If they’re correct, the Witness mysteriously gets killed and the Investigators lose the case. So they must be coy. Your First Game of Deception: Murder in Hong KongThe Lab Technician should point to 1 Clue Card or Means Card on the table and the Forensic Scientist should verify (by gesturing and/or mouthing the name of the object) that they are both looking at the same card.

Finally, give each player (except the Forensic Scientist) a badge token. This token indicates a player has not yet attempted to solve the crime and should be clearly displayed in front of the player. Return excess tokens to the box. The Forensic Scientist can place the bullets as fast or slowly as he’d like. In many cases it helps to wait for the Investigators to discuss current clues before adding more. This way he can direct the discussions toward the correct cards. The Forensic Scientist draws a new tile from the draw pile. This tile replaces one of the previously used Scene tiles except "Location of Crime" and "Cause of Death".
