About this deal

If this book didn’t victim blame a thirteen-year-old girl, it would have been a four-star read. A teen is incapable (and inculpable) of holding any power over a creepy middle-aged man.

Was Josie’s plan to confess to Alix about covering up Brooke’s murder (she does present this idea to Walter, but he rejects the idea. Is this why she kills him? There you are!” says the friend. She’s wearing seventies-style faded jeans with an off-the-shoulder top and huge hoop earrings. The Netflix documentary does not continue the action. It merely restates the drama in a different format, slowing down the overall pace of the book. We ask experts to recommend the five best books in their subject and explain their selection in an interview.

Although she wants to help her, Alix fears that this case may be far more involved than any she's explored in her podcast thus far. Will Josie's desperation to escape her situation lead her to say just about ANYTHING to get out, once and for all? And just how much of this 'true crime' tale is, well, TRUE? As Alix learns increasingly dark details about Josie’s life, she is disturbed but she doesn’t intervene, nor does she stop the podcast interviews. Do you think Alix should have done something? What do you think the outcome would have been? Many thanks to NetGalley, Atria, and Lisa Jewell for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review! Now available as of 8.8!!** The audio was brilliant! The two principal narrators did a thoroughly amazing job bringing Josie and Alix to vivid life. The supporting cast of narrators that lent their gifted voices to the ‘podcasts’ were phenomenal as well!

Could. Not. Put. It. Down. Very few books cause me to wake up at 2:00 am to finish reading. This heart-pounding, gripping thriller opens with two women celebrating their forty-fifth birthday at the same pub. They meet in the loo and learn they were born on the same day in the same hospital. SE: That idea of secrets is a huge theme in this book and has been in your other books as well. Is that something you intentionally write about, or does it just find its way into your work? It’s from here on out that Alix’s relationship with Josie spirals out of control and the thriller madness begins. But this time, the story Jewell tells isn’t quite as straightforward as some of her others. Even at the very end, the truth of the events in the novel is blurred, leaving the reader with unanswered questions and no sense of closure, and also left murky is the line between pedophile and victim. Even though Alix finds Josie's vibe unsettling, she admits there's something fascinating about her. She is intrigued. That’s lovely,” she says. “Thank you so much.” She leans across and kisses Walter softly on the cheek.

Celebrating her 45th birthday at her local pub, popular podcaster Alix Summers crosses paths with an unassuming woman called Josie Fair. Josie, it turns out, is also celebrating her 45th birthday. They are, in fact, birthday twins. This book doesn’t have a super-complicated plot, just SO MANY questions at the end. This post will include:
