As our appreciation for outdoor adventures continues to grow, with lakes and mountain holidays and camping trips with the family as appealing as ever, we can't think of a better time to invest in a stand-up paddle board to get exploring.
Like most of Aqua Marina’s line-up, this great little board comes with a bag, pump, leash, and the required fins to get you going – although you’ll have to provide the paddle. In the sea I could have done with a bit more stability (or skill) but managed to catch a few waves after a day’s practise. If I was using it In the sea often I’d probably buy an additional straight-corded leash, though. Price: Paddle boards can range in price from a few hundred pounds to thousands. We included boards to suit all budgets, without sacrificing on quality. Though there are some very good value affordable boards on the market, there are also some terrible, poorly-made cheap boards, but you certainly won’t find any of those in this feature. We had our two children with us (aged 9 and 5). The board is large so we were able to have an adult paddling (on our knees!) with a child sitting on the front for a ride. It still felt very safe and stable, even with a bit of fidgeting going on and the children both loved it. We also let both children have a go by themselves, with our supervision. Our 9 year old was able to have a good go by herself but the board and paddle were probably a bit too big for our 5 year old. As they grow though, I could see both really enjoying using it.
Another solid option for those just starting out, this rigid is made from a tough polyethylene that wraps around a watertight foam core for excellent buoyancy and stability on the water. This is a great all-round, amazing quality board from Red - an exclusively ISUP (Inflatable stand-up paddle board) brand that were the first to revolutionise the market compatible model. When the board is rolled up and stored in its bag it is half the size of all other ISUPS. It's great on flat water and on the sea with small waves. Verdict: Since I first tried the Portofino paddleboard in 2021 it has been relaunched with a new colour - you can now get it in red as well as blue - plus I've done some serious mileage on it in all sorts of conditions. Generously proportioned, super stable and available at a sensible price, the Two Bare Feet Entradia 10’ 10” is one of the best inflatable SUP boards for beginners and bigger paddlers, but it’s more than just that. It’s tons of fun even for more experienced paddlers, especially if conditions are lumpy or if you have small family members that want to get on board. The kit is really nicely put together too.

Size and air pressure (referred to as PSI) will contribute to how much weight the paddle board can easily support. Make sure you consider potential passengers, not just yourself.
