About this deal

For many, the Sigma 16mm should fill a huge need for filmmakers and photographers looking for a relatively affordable, high-quality, semi wide-angle prime lens for their Canon EF-M cameras. But let’s take a closer look at the Sigma 16mm compared to the Canon 11-22mm to see how it performs. Low-light performance Visit us and you'll always find a friendly welcome. Our policy is to treat our customers as we would like to be treated ourselves, a simple ideal that we try hard to live up to. There are 16 lens elements, two of which are SLD (Special Low Dispersion) elements, and three are Sigma’s FLD (Ultra Low Dispersion; one can only guess why they used F and not U in their acronym!) glass. Those glass specifications sound impressive, but they wash over me as much meaningless babble. When I’ve asked other photographers, they usually shrug their shoulders and admit they haven’t got a clue. I’ve tried lenses with all sorts of combinations of lens elements. Some have been great, and others not so. The only way to tell is to take the lens out and try it, which is what I did. Focusing Performance of the Lens The lens hood cuts harmful rays that can negatively affect photographs while also minimizing reflectivity within the hood itself. The hood also features a rubber construction and a non-slip groove to make it easy to hold in a variety of shooting situations.

Is SIGMA's Mount Conversion Service available for SIGMA lenses with other mounts to be changed to fit for Nikon Z mount? I did notice some purple fringing in certain high contrast scenes at wide apertures. The nature of this is covered in the resolution section above. It is essentially only an issue at f/1.4. As we’ve seen with an increasing number of Sigma’s Global Vision lenses for Canon DSLRs, this new M-mount lens is preloaded with data for enabling in-camera corrections for aberrations like peripheral illumination, chromatic aberration and diffraction, where featured in the host camera. Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN | C: Performance Save yourself some trouble and just shoot with the lens in APS-C mode. There aren’t really any benefits from doing otherwise. The Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN | C is available in EOS M mount, Sony E mount and Micro Four Thirds mount (Image credit: Matthew Richards)

The Google Pixel 6 may not be the latest Google smartphone any more, but it might still be the best value This delightful F1.4 prime lens covers the angle of view equivalent to wide angle 24mm on SONY E-mount and semi-wide angle 32mm on Micro Four-Thirds mount. With only a few minor exceptions, all of SIGMA's manufacturing, including molds and parts, takes place under a single integrated production system in Japan. SIGMANikon Z mount lenses. SIGMA Corporation is pleased to announce the upcoming launch of interchangeable lenses for Nikon Z mount system.…The lens looks very nice and has a sleek, smooth design and finish. It pairs quite well with a Sony camera and doesn't look dissimilar from some of Sony's own lenses. The large focus ring has a rubberized finish and feels very nice to use, plus it's wide at just under a couple inches (around 50 millimeters). The lens looks good and balances well with the A6500. Optical construction is 16 elements in 13 groups, and interestingly the instruction leaflet makes a point of informing that all the glass used is both Lead and Arsenic free. This is relevant to environmental issues if and when the lens is finally disposed of. There are various special lens elements, including 2 moulded glass aspheric, 2 SLD (Super Low Dispersion) and 3 FLD (Fluorite-like Low Dispersion). The FLD glass performs in a way very similar to a fluorite element, helping to reduce chromatic aberration even further. Fluorite elements are both expensive and quite brittle, so the FLD glass can be used with a very similar end result. There are 9 rounded diaphragm blades, aimed at making the aperture as circular as possible for improved bokeh. The Xiaomi 12T Pro offers a whopping 200MP main camera, but how does this perform, and do the other cameras deliver? Joshua Waller puts it through its paces. Comatic aberrations are something I try to test and look for with any wide angle options that might potentially be used for astrophotograpy (stars) or similar purposes. The wide maximum aperture of this lens only heightens a lot of people’s expectations for using this lens for astro work. Unfortunately this has never been a big Sigma strength in the many Sigma lenses that I’ve tested. They aren’t the worse performers in this metric, but neither are they near the top, either. The same truth applies here. While I didn’t get an amazing astro night during my review period (this time of year brings either overcast conditions or bitter cold conditions, often with a bright moon), I did get one extremely cold (-32 C) night were I was able to go out (briefly) and shoot stars (brrrrr….).

OPPO's mid-range smartphone aims to provide a sophisticated camera system at an attractive price. Andy Westlake sees how it measures up. I should note here that the lens is easy to add filters to at a very common 67mm size, which certainly adds to the value as a landscape lens. I like to add ND filters for allowing for longer shutter speeds, and in some situations a circular polarizer can reduce reflections, add contrast, and deepen color saturation. The focal length is not so wide that you should get too many weird “polarizing” effects in blue skies. All of the focus takes place internally, and nothing rotates at the front, which makes using a polarizer more simple. Flare Resistance, Chromatic Aberrations, Bokeh, and Distortion

Another night shooting situation proved slightly challenging for the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 lens. You can see that the lens produces some comatic aberration when shooting the night sky. This was not restricted solely to the corners either and was prevalent across much of the frame. The scale on the left side is an indication of actual image resolution as LW/PH and is described in detail above. The taller the column, the better the lens performance. The SIGMA 16mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary features SIGMA’s inner focus technologies, while lighter lens elements in the focus lens group make possible a more compact actuator. Moreover, this lens offers outstanding stability whether the photographer is shooting handheld or has the camera placed on a surface. Structurally, the lens features materials and parts that contribute to its compact, lightweight structure. In summary, this is an unprecedented lens that combines outstanding optical performance with exceptional portability and usability. From my perspective, having Image Stabilization on the lens doesn’t make that much of a difference when shooting video on the M50. Final Thoughts This trio of affordable, ultra-fast prime lenses are of particular interest to Canon APS-C shooters because Canon have released so few native lenses for the EF-M mount - just 8 since the system was launched 8 years ago in 2012, with half of those being slow zoom lenses.
