About this deal

The killers' pursuit of horror and violence is described through the unique audiotape and videotape interviews which Berry-Dee conducted, deep inside the bowels of some of the world's toughest prisons. b) He spends half the book pimping out his other work, or quoting people who have praised him. DUDE, WE GET IT. YOU LOVE YOURSELF.

This is not to excuse the acts or to sympathize with the individuals mentioned in the books. However, it makes me question how someone so judgemental already decided on what they thought about these serial killers was able to get close to them, corresponded with them so many years before finally meeting them? Even though this book is titled as Talking with Serial Killers, the only talking done is by the author. Despite few quotes it does not introduce the perspective or narrative of the serial killer, rather it provides author's generic view and facts you can easily find on wikipedia. This book is a really good read in terms of subject matter and reading words spoken by the serial killer themselves. There is a great deal revealed by the killers than TV shows have revealed. Christopher Berry-Dee, criminologist and bestselling author of books about the serial killers Aileen Wuornos and Joanne Dennehy, turns his uncompromising gaze upon women who not only kill, but kill repeatedly. the constant need to talk about a woman's weight and looks when it has absolutely 0 relation to the case is a bit odd mr. berry-dee i am not here to find out whether you find these women attractive

Moving on to the foreword and introductory chapters. The foreword seems to hold very little relevance to the content of the book, discussing his time visiting a women's prison in Russia and his thoughts on the prison; many of which are discussing how inmates in UK prisons shouldn't have the right to complain compared to the conditions of those in Sablino Prison, Russia. This strikes me as a strange point to take away, if you saw people living in extremely poor conditions, while under the care of the state, that would bring you to consider how much human rights mean when they deem it acceptable to retract them as punishment. Instead of questioning how the prison systems treat inmates, he came to the conclusion that those in a UK prison should have no right to complain - even though the UK prison system is also uniquely flawed. it's full with grammatical errors, incomplete sentences and obvious errors like when talking about the calibre of bundy's gun. the author jumps between .22 and .25 in a matter of sentences, again and again. Although interesting I struggled with the fact that he spoke about each killer differently, some of them you got parts of actual conversations with the killers and their feelings but others you didn’t. A lot of the time I wasn’t sure if he was talking about facts or his opinion/own summarised version of things.

Some of the details in this book were very disturbing, one man I wasn’t entirely sure was guilty and the way some of the cases were handled was absurd, a few of these killers were set free to kill over and over again, so that part was an interesting read. Alice Johnson, a somewhat dim-witted, plain woman in her 30s fell for him, and this naive and gullible cleaning woman with few friends thought she'd met a hard-working, decent man." - Yes Christopher, because I'm sure you've never been wrong about a person in your entire life, and surely everybody was on the receiving end of well-intentioned upbringing and education to shield them from predators and con-artists. Definitely. If he is as much of an expert when it comes to serial killers and psychopaths as he claims he is, he would surely be the first one to remind us of how cunning and manipulative these individuals can be, and about how they can sometimes portray the loving husband and father for decades, and credibly so, before their mask slips. But apparently, this victim didn't deserve that little reminder. As Berry-Dee's first publication, I have to joke that it's nice not to have the author refer to his numerous other publications as his more recent books so often do! But there's no doubt why he has become such a popular author, as he has a fascinating job as an investigative criminologist and what better insight into a serial killer's life than from one of the few people who gets to ask them questions. also, he seems to be really proud of himself and his interviewing technique because the killers told him stuff that led to the closures of several open homicide cases. ok, that sounds really nice, so why wasn't there one interview in this book?! it was just the description of the killers' lives and murders and their conviction with a couple of quotes thrown into the mix.for he's the wolf in sheep's clothing, part human, part Anti-Christ"- No Christopher, we are talking about a deranged individual damaged beyond repair, and if you were really interested in helping society deal with them, you'd stop dehumanizing them and make people aware of how everybody, and that's their neighbours, teachers, fathers and sons (and occasionally daughters) can potentially pose a threat and what best we can do to prevent future outbreaks of violence early on. But yes let's continue casting them as the spawn of satan to keep readers engaged. Or is the author perhaps trying to create maximum distance between him and the cruel actions of these killers, so as not to be associated? I can't tell, but I wish it hadn't taken a toll on his writing style the way it did. This book like his others also has plenty of grammar and spelling mistakes. I'm sure no one reads these before they are published. there is hardly any actual TALKING with female serial killers, just information you could find out from google and the small amount of talking that there is hardly worth the read

I enjoy a good book about the mind, however skewed that mind is, or how mixed up or evil. It all makes an interesting read, these case studies the author has compiled, as the dots can either be connected or not, and the people behind the masks can be seen. This book contains conversations between a criminologist, and some of the worlds most evil and disturbed individuals. When I say evil, I definitely don't say it lightly. The information I have read in this book was unsettling to say the least, and terribly difficult to digest at times. This wasn´t what I expected and, to be honest, it was a bit of a disappointment. It reminded me of those free annual-sized books they used to do for a pound (and maybe still do) with titles like "The Most Evil People In History" or "True Crime". Bestselling writer and criminologist Christopher Berry-Dee turns his attention to a new kind of victim: the wives or partners of serial murderers who remained unaware of exactly who they had fallen for until after their other half's arrest or, in some cases, conviction, for multiple murders. Oh yes, a book titled 'talking with female serial killers' which includes plenty of women who aren't serial killers.

If you are looking for a detailed, rational, well-written, non-hyperbole filled book then just walk away. Meh. There are better books about serial killers, there are worse books about serial killers. Unless this is the first book you have ever read about killers, you won't learn much and there is some outright bad information in this book but it's too "meh" for me to give a crap.

He is very repetitive in his writing too. He mentioned the crimes being akin to Stephen king books three times throughout the book Serial Killers at the Movies: My Intimate Talks with Mass Murderers who Became Stars of the Big Screen First of all I feel like it hasn't been properly proof read before publishing, as there are some spelling errors/typos (actually loads) and sometimes the complete wrong word is used for example "she because a nuisance to her teachers" .Psychopaths: Up Close and Personal: Inside the Minds of Sociopaths, Serial Killers and Deranged Murderers This book is highly misleading and contains information that can be found easily online, however written in a repetitive, often confusing and juvenile way. It is hard to to discern what is a hard fact about a case gathered from the interview and what is just the opinion of the author. There is so many editing errors and only a handful of direct quotes from the interviews, despite this being called ‘Talking with serial killers’. He seems to think self promoting his other works every other chapter or so is acceptable. While I’m sure this is a great achievement I don’t need to read for the umpteenth time how your book “Monster” was then adapted into a feature film starring Charlize Theron, name drop included each and every time. Horribly written, fantastical, overly dramatic, ADVERBS. SO MANY. Honestly, I'm not even sure this was edited. From the way the author is described, I actually thought he had some credentials in Criminology - that is not the case. It is incredibly patronizing to women - calling them 'the fairer sex' and desperately trying to give some sort of Victorian value to his awful wittering. He describes the female murderers in minute, creepy detail, particularly if they were attractive and takes immense pleasure in the alleged offers of sex or marriage.
