About this deal

Very well said! I skim over his writing style because there’s so much else to focus on, but oh god. Thanks for adding your thoughts to the mix Adam! I think the ending worked really well and followed how the reader sees the events played out. Beauregard does a great job of showcasing the hurt that was created with Geraldine’s actions as well as how this directly impacted the various characters in the novel. While the rape scenes were horrific, they were also...over the top? Like it's somehow not bad enough that the main character is raped multiple times, she has to be thrown up on during the assault. Another scene she gets raped with a piece of meat and then forced to eat it? And her unborn baby is killed horribly and she has almost no reaction to it? The bar has been set. For any of you who feels the violence and depravity is the most important part of the story, you need to read this book to learn about character development - because when the reader cares for the protagonist, they can FEEL the bad things happening. The children have been chosen for a reason. Geraldine feels that the parents are undeserving of the lives they are living and the children they have. Somewhat broken families, the daily life struggles of parenthood, and the product the children are becoming because of those parental choices.

review: ’The Slob’ by Aron Beauregard Book review: ’The Slob’ by Aron Beauregard

Oh boy, I kind of loved this repugnant read. It's been a while since I've rooted so hard for a herione to make it as with these kind of reads you need to expect the unexpected and even for that to be twisted in two. Why you should buy this: If you’re a fan of Aron’s you probably have already snagged this and most likely have read it. If you’re new to extreme horror and want to see what it’s all about, this is an excellent place to dive in and discover how these novels will contain really well done plots with fantastic writing and some of the most horrific gore-filled scenes you’ll ever read. The answer, I am sad to say, is NO! If I don’t make a shopping list, I never remember shit or, in this case, things related to shit. Also, it will not be possible to separate it from the original story, so I am not allowed to tell you “It is not as good as…” – nothing is and I doubt ever will be, because I didn’t expect such a powerful story, which was part of the magic. I felt itchy just by reading this book. I could smell the putrid whiff of filth and odor, it made me scratch my skin and unconsciously reach for a sanitizer just to lessen my discomfort. Totally gross.Raised in a household so filthy it was stomach-spilling, Vera involuntarily evolved into a neat freak. Upon discovering she and her disabled husband Daniel are expecting, she needs fast cash. Her obsession with cleanliness sprouts the concept that her skills can be put to use in a unique way. She takes a stab at the booming door-to-door vacuum sales business of 1988. splatterpunk is a genre with potential. unfortunately, there was no compelling story underneath the salacious gore of playground. the gore was decently written, but everything else was subpar. With Playground, Aron Beauregard transcends himself, delivering a genuinely chilling, uncomfortable novel that will make even the most jaded horror fan squirm. A harrowing, relentless read that left me breathless." I did not like this book. I wanted to, I could see that there was a point haunting the edges of the book. But I just, I just couldn't.

The Slob Series by Aron Beauregard - Goodreads

Vera’s son is the result of a life of vileness. The man who took everything from her hasn’t finished planting his evil seed, Harold. His appearance and behaviour are repulsive, all too familiar, and growing increasingly worrisome by the day. Vera is determined to normalise her child’s life so that she can bring out the good qualities she has seen in him or her on rare occasions. Will the glimmer of hope she seeks emerge, or will she be left to mop up another bloodbath? About The Author Aron BeauregardThis is a CHUNKY BOI for Aron and there was not a single moment that disappointed. It’s delusional in the best way. It’s absolutely disgusting. It is everything you could ever want out of an Aron Beauregard book. I am always impressed with how creatively insane this author is. He pushes boundaries and makes the reader want to hide the book in case anyone beside them gets a glimpse at the words. I love it! Once again, the amazing illustrations helped to instill that special Aron Beauregard horror into your psyche, and I think this has to be one of his best books yet! I would love to follow Harold more and see what he gets up to as he enters into adulthood. I travelled with Vera on her long, disturbing and horrific journey, and I felt every emotion along with her. It was heartbreaking, brutal and terrifying. I really felt for her. I should feel bad for Vera, with all she endured at the hands of The Slob and her life in this book. But I was kinda mad at her. She chose to have Harold but she didn't love him. I don’t wanna describe the “horrendous torture” that Vera experienced at the hands of the Slob in great detail because I feel like I’m gonna throw up if I do.

Thankyou for making this review, I was going to get it after a friend recommended it to me through tiktok. I have my own trauma towards SA and child loss so definitely glad I didn’t buy it. Will def give playground a skip too… And then I heard it was nominated for a Splatterpunk Award – which is not only well-deserved validation for the work, but also pretty damn impressive if you consider it is a self-published book. You should know that my review will be influenced by my violent reaction to the description of fecal matters in books. I really, really don't like reading about it. I don't know why, but every time I read a story with feces descriptions, I visualize them and my brain imagines the smell. I often end up almost barfing. This story is rich in description. The reason why I rated it a 5 star. It was repulsive and vile and yet. I couldn’t stop reading it. There were moments of tension that were built up so well that I was sitting on the edge of my seat. The story takes place eight years after the events of The Slob. Vera is the loving mother of Harold. He’s a seven year old child with a peculiar and unique body. He has issues which don't allow him to go to school. He needs special care, very special. So he was placed under Sister Doomus's tutelage; she's an evil deviant old woman, who likes to do, questionable things with her rosaries .

The Slob has received critical praise and as a result, has been nominated for the 2021 Splatterpunk Awards! The narrator hired for the novel was honestly the highlight. Likewise the children in the book are written pretty accurately to their ages. I think those two things are about all the positive things I can say about it though. When you think you’ve read about everything and anything and then you proceed to read a book like this 👁️👄👁️
