The “spit roasting” facility should allow you to cook all sorts of meat and veg to make maybe kebabs, you are only limited by your imagination! When running this air fryer alongside my Philips air fryer, I noticed that the outside of the Philips model will only get ever so slightly hot to the touch during cooking. The Uten, on the other hand, gets pretty hot to the touch. Not enough to burn yourself, but considerably hotter than the Philips. This tells me the insulation (and possibly energy efficiency) of this unit is not good.

Sausages cooked in the Air Fryer are awesome, you don’t need to keep turning them. A typical “fat” sausage will cook to perfection in about 15 Mins and you can turn them occasionally if you want. The bad cooking performance of this Uten makes me wonder about its energy efficiency, as it is a 1700 watt unit. With this rating, I would have expected it to be able to maintain a good cooking result.Besides that, there are countless other advantages of using an air fryer, including the possibility of oil-less cooking, achieving similar results to actually frying your food and preparing your meals even up to twice as fast as you would using a regular generic convection oven. The foot print is not much bigger than a 4 slice toaster but it will certainly change the way we cook. It won’t replace the Gas oven completely but will replace some of the things that we use the “Combo” Microwave for. The beauty of the Air Fryer is that unlike Microwave ovens you can use metal cooking utensils but you can’t use plastic utensils. It won’t beat a Microwave for speed of cooking but for things with pastry, it beats the Microwave hands down and that includes a combo microwave, without a trivet to raise the food!

Instruction manual very thin and doesn’t give you any information on all its operation, so difficult to navigate. Feels very trial and error. It’s good to have the glass door to see how the food is cooking rather than opening each time and letting heat out. Preparing more than 2 lbs (~1 kg) of frozen french fries in one go is perfectly possible here – without any compromises! The first and most prominent advantage of a high capacity air fryer like the Uten 1088TS, is that when using it you will be able to prepare large batches of food at once, and if you manage it right, prepare meals even for a family of 4 in one go! To be honest, this seems to be a common problem with budget air fryers that I have had experience with. A beep signal sound that is used both for the shake reminder alarm and at the end of the cooking process is pretty loud and easily audible even from another closed off room.In our honest opinion the glossy plastic finish might not be the best choice for a kitchen appliance of this size, although this is purely a matter of preference.

To begin cooking, plug in the unit, hit the power button and then, either choose a preset or manually set the time and temp. Pressing the power/start button again gets things going. I found this confusing as there is a play/pause button as well. It made sense to me to use the power button to turn it on or off and hit the play button to start cooking. That play/pause button only works once the fryer is running. If you want to end the cooking early, pressing the power button immediately stops the heating, and in about 20 seconds, shuts off the blower and powers down.

It seems that Air Fryers come in 2 guises. The popular ones seem to be those that are basically a “round” device that look similar to a large pan or Dutch oven, with or without some sort of rotating tray / “basket”.
