The Ruark Audio R1 MkIII Radio might be a bit expensive but it has a deeply rich sound and a beautiful design. If Apple ever makes a DAB radio, it would probably look like this one. The simple and straightforward design makes this great DAB radio standout from the crowd. On the front you will find a big speaker and a large OLED screen. The screen is bright and easily readable. If you’ve used the VQ Retro Mini before, the Monty will feel very similar – as the interface is almost identical. The only real change is that there is a handy USB charging port built into the VQ Monty radio that you don’t get from smaller sets.

The radio will show you the current charge when off and you press the 'mode' button so you know what charge is left. This function is not available when no rechargeable battery is fitted. Every radio station we tried delivered crystal-clear audio, and there was no sign of any signal dropping or interference either. And whether you listen to news commentary, phone-in shows, football coverage, the Top 40 chart or a curated playlist or podcast via Bluetooth, there’s something on the market for you. Great battery for a great radio. I can't fault the design or ease of install. It has a keyed fitting (only goes in one way in) and works a treat. Enhances the radio function itself and now can be taken camping (as we did).Among the great features is the ‘Snooze Handle’ – the metal bar across the top of the radio; when your alarm sounds a simple tap allows you to continue your slumber.
