About this deal

Overall, it’s a great model to paint and I love seeing how each of us had our own separate takes on it. Predisposition aside, the Biologis takes everything great about the original Primaris Apothecary and encases it in super-heavy armour. Wielding a combi-weapon and two combat blades, this Phobos-armoured Lieutenant can infiltrate ahead of the main Space Marine force, sowing discord among his enemies and disrupting their battle lines. Sternguard Veteran Squad

It’s the fastest, simplest way to get your forces onto the tabletop – all you need are these rules, and one Combat Patrol per player. As it happens, a portion of the Tyranids and the Space Marines you’ll find in Leviathan can be used to form a full Combat Patrol for each faction!Gone are the slightly soft, retro aesthetic of the old Termagants. In their place are a devilish deluge of teeth, claws and other spikey bits. What’s more, with every Termagant being around 4 components a piece, these things go together with exceptional speed and ease. They also retain a great deal of detail, so there has been no sacrifice in quality for quantity. In my opinion, the new Tyranids are arguably the best Tyranid models ever released. They feature more defined and exaggerated musculature compared to their predecessors, with significantly enhanced texture on their carapaces. Moreover, the new Termagants boast updated proportions and now come on 28mm bases. Personally, they are my favourite models from the entire set. Leviathan Tyranids Barbgaunts and Neurogaunts sprue Leviathan book & core rules first look

Liam: Yeah, these (along with some others, like the Barbgaunts above) are much bigger and more impressive in the flesh/plastic than they are in promo shots on the Internet. It’ll be interesting to see if we do get a new plastic Lictor down the line, and if so what that model looks like size-wise, because these are easily bigger than the old one and they’re supposed to be a smaller strain of the same kind of bug. Now, let’s look at the contents of the Leviathan Box. While we don’t know the separate price of the different minis, we can make some estimates: The Space Marines It will be interesting to see whether or not this fellow is actually able to stand toe-to-toe with the Tyranids in close combat. Power Armour only stops so many rending teeth and utterly terrifying scything talons. So here are the overall contents for the Leviathon box. We’ll break it down by faction, starting with the Space Marines. The box itself is comprised of 72 new minis and all the accessories! However, the real question is, what kind of value will you get with this box? This set will get you bang up to date with the current storyline in Warhammer 40,000, but if you want to explore the horrors of the Fourth Tyrannic War, there’s the Leviathan tie-in novel by Darius Hinks, in which the Ultramarines mount a desperate defence in the face of the monstrous Hive Fleet Leviathan. Admittedly, GW’s new edition launch boxes do follow something of a formula – as do most of their releases – but the sheer quality of what’s in the box, coupled with the fan service delivered across this release, with both new Terminators and a mountain of new Tyranids, will have a significant portion of Warhammer collectors jumping for joy. Tyranid collectors in particular will be over the moon with this set: their range has been singularly starved of new releases for years, though the time has finally come for them to get them to get some well-deserved attention. And what attention it is. That Screamer-Killer. Oh man. Indomitus and Dominion were, indeed, impressive in their own rights – but Leviathan surpasses both with its deluge of brand-new, masterfully-designed miniatures and other special edition content. Games Workshop remind us that they are still at the top of the miniature making market – and that their IPs are still capable of producing world-class and original content for everyone’s enjoyment.

On top of that, you’ll get the core rules for Warhammer 40,000, and the rules – as well as specially designed missions – for the new Combat Patrol game format. You’ll also find a full complement of Crusade rules to get your narrative campaigns up and running ahead of Codex releases, and a full Crusade expansion that delves into the story of the Fourth Tyrannic War through a series of linked campaign games. Of course, that’s what makes the company’s more subtle marketing decisions all the more curious. But we’ll get to that in due time. First, let’s talk about what’s inside this box.

Ballistus Dreadnought

As with the rest of the Tyranid models in this box, it’s a joy to paint. Not only do you have the big carapace armor which you know and love on all Tyranid models, but you’re also given this huge belly to work with. As for the termagant’s sprue-mate, Rippers are similarly faithfully updated versions of the original models. You might find yourself wanting to cut some of the basing bits that they are attached to out, as they seem like they would get repetitive.
