About this deal

During heavy rainfall, you can take several steps to prevent overflow, such as diverting water away from the water butt, using multiple water butts to distribute the load, or using a rainwater diverter kit that automatically redirects excess water to a suitable drainage area. A loss/replacement can only be pursued in line with the target delivery times of the courier or once the courier accept loss. the leak is mainly from the hose which is connected into the waterbutt - photo 2 but i can see water movement on teh downpipe too. A downspout replacement is where you cut off part of the downpipe and place the water butt directly below it. This will require the installation of an overflow pipe.

When you buy a water butt or barrel is will usually comprise the main plastic water container, a lid and a downpipe diverter to allow you to direct water from your gutter into the barrel. Most butts also come with a stand to rest the container on and a tap to get water out of the container into a watering can or other device. Alternatively, for areas with higher than average rainfall or after a heavy rain event, rainwater diverters work to reduce the amount of water being directed into the ground drainage system around a home or property, which in turn can minimise flooding and ground saturation across nearby gardens. Fitting a Rainwater Diverter If you’re installing a downspout, simply slide the downspout through the specially designed water butt hole. You can then move onto the final step below.

How to Install a Water Butt Pump

Use the Harcostar Waterbutt Overflow kit when your downpipe is connected straight into the water butt lid and you are not using a rain diverter kit. Remember to regularly maintain and clean your water butt, inspecting it along with the gutters and downpipes for any obstructions. Water butts typically come equipped with an overflow mechanism to prevent excess water from causing an overflow. However, sometimes these mechanisms may be faulty or inadequate. Ensure your water butt has a properly fitted overflow outlet or pipe. This allows excess water to drain out without overflowing the sides!” To install your water butt, simply measure the height of your water butt, ensuring you mark the height on the downspout.

There are a wide variety of water butts. These range from slimline water butts that are designed to fit even the smallest gardens, to recycled water butts made from standard garden bins, to even stylish designer water butts made by the big fashion houses (ok, maybe not fashion houses, but they still look pretty). It does not necessarily need to be level but it will need to be at least the same level or slightly higher to assist the water flow. If your water butt doesn’t have an overflow mechanism, it is crucial to install one. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions provided with an overflow kit to fit an overflow outlet or pipe at an appropriate height. By taking these proactive measures, you can ensure optimal functionality, avoid unnecessary water waste, and harness the full potential of rainwater for your gardening needs. Conclusion Take a close look at your water butt and familiarise yourself with its design and structure. Note the position of the inlet where rainwater enters the butt and the outlet from which you access the collected water. Step 2 – Observe the Overflowing PatternCarefully inspect the water butt to identify any visible signs of an overflow mechanism. It is typically located at the same or slightly lower level than the maximum fill line of the water butt. Place your water butt next to the downpipe and cut through the downpipe a few centimetres below the top of your water butt.

The most common reason that I see people’s water butts overflowing is that their rainwater diverter is placed too high on the drainpipe – The height of the diverter must not be higher than the max fill line of your water butt! Step 5 – Determine the Need for Diverter InstallationYou can get/use an additional piece of hose from the top side of the water butt to the drain. You might be able to buy a kit with appropriate seals included. If you’re using a downspout installation, you will need to install an overflow pipe. This is a pipe that will allow water to overflow into the drain. You should have an overflow pipe supplied with your water butt. Follow the instructions supplied with your water butt for this installation. In most cases, this will be a simple case of attaching the pipe to the corresponding overflow hole.
