About this deal

Finally, Wicca does not have a holy building, like a church or mosque, and although some branches may have specific, designated Priests or Priestesses, organized religious hierarchy is rare and most members believe that all participants are equal, with equal connection to the gods and spiritual power.

The God and Goddess are worshipped at regular intervals throughout the year. Festivals emphasizing the masculine are known as Sabbats. Corresponding with the Earth’s position relative to the Sun, they include the Solstices, the Equinoxes, and the four cross-quarter days that fall in between these solar points. Some Wiccans divide these Sabbats into “major” and “minor”: the minor Sabbats are the solstices and equinoxes, whilst the major are the remaining four, which most famously including Samhain, celebrated today in the United States as Halloween. The Goddess , on the other hand, is worshipped at every Full Moon , and these holidays are called Esbats. While tools are not mandatory, many practitioners find them helpful in their rituals. Common tools include an athame (ritual knife), wand, chalice, cauldron, and crystals. Allow your intuition to guide you in selecting tools that resonate with you. Moon Phases and Spellwork I won’t drag this out because I have a very long guide on it already: elemental magic for beginners. Tarot/Divination One of the great things about Wicca is that it’s not a unified club you must get admitted to. If you decide to become Wiccan, that decision alone is enough to start calling yourself Wiccan. What is Wicca? The answer to this question can vary, depending on who you ask, but below you’ll find a general introduction to this fascinating spiritual path.

My favorite students are the students who ask why. Not only because I’m a teacher and explaining this stuff is what I live for, but also because thinking about why we’re learning things this way can absolutely revolutionize the way we approach our magic. My approach to learning and teaching has always been to identify the biggest pitfalls and the most difficult aspects of any process and to drill those things first. By learning the hard things first, we’re able to streamline every other part of the learning experience so that once you’ve mastered the few difficult and necessary skills involved in the craft, you’re able to progress through other areas of learning at lightning speed. We do a bit of extra hard work upfront so that once we get past the learning hump, everything else is so much easier to learn. Nature Walks and Meditation: Take regular walks in nature, whether it’s a nearby park, forest, or beach. Allow yourself to be fully present and receptive to the sights, sounds, and sensations of the natural world. Nature walks can also serve as opportunities for meditation, contemplation, and introspection. Names are important in Wicca, and some people use the self-dedication ceremony to rebirth under a new name. I plan to write an article on how to choose a Wiccan name in the future. Stay tuned for that. Covens Your next step is going to be learning about magical hygiene. These are the four magical skills that you absolutely must know to keep yourself safe and healthy in your craft. They are cleansing, warding, grounding, and banishing.

Coven initiation will be up to the coven. It is common for the exact initiation rite to be a secret, even to the initiate. The most important thing when going to an initiation ceremony is to have the right mindset. Honoring Deities: For those who work with deities or gods and goddesses in their practice, The Ethics of Witchcraft involve showing reverence and respect to these divine entities. This may include offerings, prayers, and maintaining a sacred space for spiritual connection. The symbols of Wicca are common to the various pagan religions. Wicca herself uses symbols of other religions in her rituals such as the Yin and Yang and the Egyptian cross. Know two symbols and their meanings: Witchcraft is also a more solitary path. Although sometimes Witches do come together to form covens, most Witches work alone, often following a specific “path” of Witchcraft, such as Green, Kitchen or Hedge Witchcraft. In general, Witches practice their craft alone, sometimes aided by a familiar. Witchcraft has no equivalent to the Wiccan Rede, and although some practitioners do believe its tenets, others are not bound by its rules. You can be a Witch, or a Wiccan, or a Wiccan who also practices Witchcraft, but the two are not inherently linked. The origins of WiccaIs this magic “real,” you might be inclined to ask? By that you probably mean, does it work? And the answer to that is again subjective. A huge number of practitioners believe that, with the strength of their wills and a little help from the gods, they can bring their intention into being, and there is compelling evidence to suggest this is possible. But like any religion, it’s about belief. And Wicca is certainly a real religion, with members all over the world. Wicca and Witchcraft If you understand simple basic principles, you can do anything. If you only know one complex specific spell, you’ll have a hard time pulling it off and adapting it to your needs. Plant the seed of a good deed and it will blossom into a flowering abundance of good energy in return Design a Self-Dedication Ritual

There are many different kinds of magic practiced by Wiccans, from divination to ritual ecstatic dance to energy clearings to more hands-on workings like charms and dream pillows. Likewise, materials and ingredients used in magical work can come from just about anywhere, from jewel-encrusted wands and cast-iron cauldrons to humble stones and scraps of ribbon. Each practitioner has their own style and preferences, as magic is ultimately a very personal art. Nonetheless, there are a few forms of Wiccan magic that remain quite popular among beginning and seasoned Witches alike: Initiation: The rites that put a budding witch on the path to making things official, by joining a coven after studying its practice, traditionally for a year and a day. The initiations that follow eventually allow the initiate the opportunity to become a high priest or high priestess; those with enough knowledge, experience, and dedication can become the leader of a Wiccan coven.connecting with nature is a central and deeply enriching aspect of witchcraft for beginners. Nature serves as both a source of inspiration and a profound teacher in the practice of the Craft. Here are some key points to consider when exploring the significance of connecting with nature in witchcraft: Wiccans gather during ceremonies with the Solstices and Shabbat to perform rituals of gratitude, renewal, and requests to the gods. The Wicca feasts are linked to seasons and nature, as well as paganism. Wicca’s rituals One of the most interesting things about Wiccan religion is that there are not really any mandates when it comes to what you have to do. No one is going to come and tell you that you have to worship a particular god or goddess or that you have to follow a strict set of rules. There are a couple of commonly referenced deities that you might like to know about though, I wrote a post about the commonly worshipped Wiccan deities here.
