About this deal

We've extensively reviewed every single one of the pizza ovens in this guide, as part of our commitment to how we test products at Ideal Home. And when we say we've tested them, we don't mean we've just tried them out once - we have these ovens at home for a timescale of two weeks to two months before we come to a verdict. The Woody was a solid pizza oven to begin with - portable, with a short set up and heat up time, and with an array of accessories that mean you can actually get started straight away. The improvements mean that it performed even better in our tests the second time around, with higher quality in the build parts than before. We speak to self-confessed clean freak Emma Bunton and find out what part of her home she loves to clean every day! As magnificent as these ovens look, they’re designed for commercial use, and for a turnover of hundreds of pizzas a day – which is something you’re probably not planning to do. They’re also generally custom-built by specialist companies and are prohibitively expensive. Gas or wood-fired?

Fuel type: some will be gas-fuelled, others need wood, or it may be a multi-fuel. Indoor pizza ovens plug into the mains so don't need any other means of generating heat. Fuel source and ease of use: How easy is it to get cooking? Is the fuel source easy to add and efficient? We looked for ovens that were intuitive to use, scoring accessories, too. There may be additional charges for the 'offshore domestic regions' and ‘Scottish Highlands’: the Channel Islands, Isle of Wight, Isle of Man, Scilly Isles, Scottish Highlands, Scottish Islands and Northern Ireland. Just to let you know the oven arrived all ok last week and we’re already very much enjoying the oven and probably had a few too many pizzas last weekend!First I tried the oven using the traditional method, so that I'd get that wood-fired flavour. The instructions to do so were as follows: The Gusto 120 is our largest most powerful oven . Boasting the diameter of a Vento with additional depth. Perfect for hosting anything from a pizza party, whole banquet or customers in your restaurant. The main advantage to gas-powered pizza ovens is how low-maintenance they are by comparison: there’s no prep or waiting time, and no ashes to clean away afterwards. Instead, all you’ll need to do is attach a butane or propane canister. Also, the temperature of a gas pizza oven can be adjusted with the simple turn of a dial, although as explained, this isn’t essential. What else can be cooked in a pizza oven?

Despite its huge capacity, the Ooni is surprisingly compact at 50 x 81.5 x 83.7cm (including chimney), making it suitable for smaller gardens too. There’s a digital thermometer at the front, as well as a hinged door at the front and chimney on top, which allows you to control the airflow and temperature of the oven. In testing, we found the Ooni produced excellent results with both wood and gas, though the wood offered a crispier, smokier and more authentic pizza flavour overall. Adding and removing our pizza was easy, due to the Karu’s wide opening, and the reheat time was super speedy too – sometimes as little as 60 seconds. Next, you have to secure the hopper which is easily done with some small bolts and an Allen key (all included). The chimney slots into place, so no construction needed here and you only need to install the cap when out of use. Then you need to attach the handle and thermometer to the removable door, and build the pellet box and burner grate. Even a DIY novice can do this all in around 20 minutes by following the instructions that you receive once you've scanned the QR code. With the pizza stone in place, you're ready to go. A temperature gauge is handy, as you’ll always know when you’re ready to cook. A few ovens come with a pizza paddle designed to fit the cavity perfectly, though this is the exception rather than the rule.

The best pizza ovens to buy

It's a seriously expensive choice, but you can make the most of it with extras such as a steam injector or oven door to offer more cooking options. They cost extra but could be with it given the price of the oven, we think. The Mezzo 76 is ideal for those looking to cook a wide range of dishes without encompassing the oven in a build. Kind regards Hannah & Bill We are building contractors and would welcome recommendations if anyone would like something similar. Hannah & Bill As the wood burns, you’re accumulating a coal bed on the oven floor. These hot coals drive heat into the floor at the very same time it’s heating the overhead dome. With gas ovens, heat is being limited to the flame only. Therefore, heating time takes much longer when using a traditional electric or gas-powered oven. 3. Wide Variety of Styles When tested with the gas burner, the Roccbox reached its maximum temperature of 500ºC in around 30-45 minutes. 12in pizzas cooked in around 60 seconds, sometimes less and the result was excellent, with a well cooked base and crispy crust. Unfortunately, the Roccbox struggled to reach the maximum temperature using the wood burner. It also required a lot of wood to stay hot and struggled to stay at a consistent temperature without regular tending. This meant pizzas took longer to cook but the results were still authentic and delicious.
