We recommend that you spray the whole wheel to ensure that the colour of the wheel is the same.*
The dark compound came dried out near the tip and I needed to cut more than necessary. The cap did not fit as a result, and the kit squeezed out both compounds unevenly. Remember to read the instructions on the can. We recommend that you remove the wheel which needs repairing from the vehicle. However, it is not always necessary to do this but we have found it makes life easier. Please refer to vehicle manufacturer's handbook to ensure safe removal of the wheel. Tip: If using putty filler, make sure you only mix a small amount at a time, otherwise it could set in the tray before you manage to use it.Wet your sandpaper. This softens it, stops it clumping and reduces the risk of scratch marks. Keep rinsing it in more water as you work. Now you need to fill in the damaged area. If you’re using filler putty, mix a small amount and press it deep into the holes. Massaging it will smooth it out any lumps. Aim to get it as level with the surrounding area as possible.
The kits work best when you take the wheels off the car and lay them out on a flat surface. This will stop the paint running. The adhesive globs on even after trying to spread it very thin. It dries very fast so you can’t do thin layers on top of each other. The paint matches very close to the rim. I tried to use 600 wet / dry sandpaper to smooth it out & it started to just take everything off so I stopped. It is better than looking at the deep gouges & scrapes though.”
Tips for using an alloy wheel repair kit
If your kit comes with a lacquer, then apply a few coats to the damaged area to protect the paint. Allow the lacquer to dry between applications.
