About this deal

Some infrared heaters automatically shut off when they overheat. However, the required temperature for proper heating is still extremely high. The question is: what size space heater do you really need? There are plenty of small electric heaters putting out 1kW, but it’s much better to go 2kW or bigger and reduce the temperature on the thermostat if needed. Overall, the cheapest electric heater to run are infrared heaters, costing around 26p an hour on average.

If you’ve ever been to the Alps in winter, you will have experienced the sudden warmth on your body when the sun peeks through the clouds. One minute it’s freezing cold, the next you’re unzipping your skiing clothes because it almost feels like a summer’s day on the Costa del Sol. That, in a nutshell, best describes how infrared heating works. A tall, freestanding patio heater is also best for heating a larger outdoor area or keeping multiple people warm, and generally works best for warming standing guests at an outdoor gathering. Typically, an electric fan heater is much smaller than a convection heater, and that’s certainly the case here. It measures 24.5 x 25.3 x 11.4 cm and weighs just over 1kg. If we find any major problems with how well the products function, they don’t make it onto our list. You’ll notice the Warmlite is a little lower in output compared to our two space heaters above, being just 1.2kW. Typically, this is a big enough heater to heat a small space. As we’ve said: kW output of your heater x cost of your tariff (per kWh) = the cost to run your heater per hour. Which type of heater is the cheapest to run? If you're looking for a cheap patio heater, then the Devola Core 2kW Freestanding Patio Heater is a budget option that does the job. DeskClimate can provide significant energy savings of up to 40% too. Room temperature can be significantly reduced (especially in the autumn and winter), usually from 24°C to 19°C. Space heating has to heat the entire room (e.g. 75 m³), while DeskClimate only warms one person at their workstation (~1.5 m³).

Short-wave infrared radiation is the most intense of the three options. However, this wavelength poses some risks as long-term and/or close exposure to this type of infrared can lead to skin burns and damage to the eyes (similar to looking into a bright light). That is why glass-blowers and welders wear protective equipment.

Cheap infrared heating panels: are they worth it?

Doing so will reduce the kWh you use, but you still have the option of getting that heat boost by cranking it to the full 3kW output. An electric heater isn’t cheap to operate, therefore, investing in the most energy-efficient appliance possible will save you a great deal of cash in the long run. An oscillating patio heater, or one that dishes out multi-directional heat, can be a good bet if you have multiple people sharing one heat source. As a result of this technology, Halogen Heaters are the safest type of heater, posing the fewest health concerns compared to oil/fan/ceramic heaters. How much energy do Halogen Heaters use?
