About this deal

Akira Kurosawa's Ran* (Steelbook) (US) – 11/16/21 (US Best Buy exclusive) – Studio Canal version REVIEW – N4K, DV Compare all the previous Blu-ray releases of Highlander to this new collector’s edition and you’ll be pleased to see that this release compiles previous features and adds four new featurettes, including an hour-long documentary comprised of interviews with cast and crew. The Immortal Attraction of Highlander is that hour-long doc and has a treasure trove of facts of and opinions on the film, in particular Clancy Brown shows up energetic and self-effacing when talking about his work, adding to the sheer joy that this genre classic has clearly brought out of people since its theatrical release. It’s a really pleasing documentary and Mulcahy is still so passionate about the film, which comes across clear as day here. For fans of the film, I think you’ll be really pleased with this feature. Ghostbusters Ultimate Collection** (includes Ghostbusters, Ghostbusters II, and Ghostbusters: Afterlife) ( US/ UK) – 2/1/22 – REVIEW – 4K, DA, DV (all three films) The Abyss (1989) (including BOTH cuts of the film) – TBA Q4 2023 (4K remaster finished and approved per James Cameron, 4K and remastered BD release coming per Cameron and producer Jon Landau in the second half of 2023) – N4K

Inland Empire (2006) (US) – Possible for 2023 (restoration confirmed with David Lynch's participation) – N4K All right, folks. This will be our last post until Wednesday next week, as it’s not only the long Labor Day weekend here in the States but by wife and I are also celebrating our thirty-second wedding anniversary. So we’re going to take a little time to relax here in sweltering-in-a-heatwave Southern California. The Maltese Falcon** (1941) (Steelbook) (US Steelbook is a Best Buy-exclusive/ UK) – 4/4/23 (UK date 4/3) – N4K Dirty Dancing: Limited Collector's Edition* (Steelbook) (US/UK/ Australia via ViaViaion) – 11/16/22 – REVIEW – N4K, DV, DAThe Ranown Westerns: Five Films Directed by Budd Boetticher (includes The Tall T, Decision at Sundown, Buchanan Rides Alone, Ride Lonesome, and Commanche Station) ( US) – 7/18/23 – N4K, DV Highlander is one of my all-time favourite films and so when I was offered the chance to not only review the 4K version of the film, but to also get my hands on the collectors edition, I literally jumped at the chance. Years later, he is met by Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez (Sean Connery), a swordsman who teaches MacLeod the truth about himself, he is immortal; one of a race of many who can only die when the head is cut from the body. He must fight his way through the centuries until the time of The Gathering, when the few immortals who have survived the ages will come together to fight until only one remains. In New York City the final fight is about to begin, and in the end, there can be only one. Featuring an unforgettable original score by Michael Kamen and Queen, HIGHLANDER went on to inspire four further sequels and a television series.

For those new to the fictional fantasy world, the story flips between 1985 New York and 16 th century Scotland. We start in the former where the last remaining immortals are gathering to fight to be the last to survive but, the thing is, only decapitation can take these individuals out of the existence so your basic stabbing or shooting isn’t going to do it. The opening sequence shows us Connor in an epic Car Park sword fight before eventually killing another one of these ‘immortals’ and once dead, he also takes his energy or soul… I would conclude. Thus setting us up for what to expect from future battles. Looper** (US release has Dolby Vision & Atmos plus a new image master) ( US/ UK) – 2/15/22 (UK release on 7/12/21) – REVIEW – N4K, DV, DA Cat People (1982): Collector's Edition* ( US/UK) – 8/2/22 (delayed from 7/19 and 6/28) – REVIEW – N4K, DV

At one point, Mulcahy himself perfectly encapsulates the mindset which drove the film. Speaking of the difficulty in casting the lead he explains how he finally saw a photo of Lambert from the film Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes. He immediately knew that that was the look he wanted. When someone pointed out that Christopher Lambert didn’t actually speak any English, Mulcahy replied “I guess we’ll work that out”. Who cared? The guy looked right. The Driver: Limited Edition* (1978) (Steelbook) ( US/ UK all-region/ France) – UK date 12/16/22 – REVIEW – N4K, DV
