At first glance, you’ll find a sleek, box-shaped machine with a minimalist appearance that will complement the sophistication of most modern kitchens. Indeed, it doesn’t look dissimilar to its predecessor, the Jura ENA Micro 1. While it is true the A1 is not the cheapest espresso machine, when you consider the vast array of features you get, then can’t help but be impressed.
As you probably expect from such a great super automatic machine, the cleaning and maintenance parts are also hassle and worry free. It seems every aspect of the Jura A1 has been well thought out and this is no different.
Comes with new Jura technology: The Jura A1 comes with the all-new Aroma G3 grinder and Pulse Extraction Process technology for optimum brewing quality. Clean the steam wand after every use. This tool has a lot of holes and grooves that milk can easily sit in. To prevent this, purge the steam wand and wipe it down with a damp cloth after each use. Then, as you’re giving your machine a once over at the end of the day, give the steam wand a deeper clean to get rid of any milk that may have been missed.
As we mentioned earlier, the A1 has three drinks options. There are also two coffee strengths. The one-bean coffee strength option brews using 7g of beans. Meanwhile, for those who prefer a more robust drink, the three-bean option (slightly confusingly, there isn’t a two-bean option) uses 10g. You can also customize the volume of water of each cup size. Jura A1 Review: An In-Depth Look
The Jura A1 has just three drinks options, and you choose them via each of the three buttons on top of the machine. So, you can brew a ristretto, an espresso, or a regular coffee. The ristretto is a shorter version of traditional espresso. It’s more intense than espresso but slightly sweeter. Meanwhile, the regular coffee option brews a beverage akin to Americano (espresso with hot water). You want to make milky drinks– We don’t recommend the A1 if you like latte, cappuccino or other milky coffee drinks unless you already have milk frother. Since this model doesn’t have milk frothing system, the Jura ENA 8 would make a better choice. The Verdict On The Jura A1 – 4.45/5
The main difference between Jura and Nespresso is that the former manufactures beans-to-cup machines, while the latter has a pod-based brewing system. With a Jura machine, you get to grind the coffee beans on the spot, while for a Nespresso you just put a pod in and press Start. Both methods have their pros and cons. At the rear of the machine is the 36.8oz capacity water tank. The tank also houses a water filter – standard in Jura machines. Nespresso is also a Swiss-based company, part of the Nestle food group. The Nespresso system was invented in 1976, but the company only filed for a patent for its coffee capsules, known as pods, in 1996. The main aim of this machine is to provide a convenient, hands-free experience for the user by using Jura’s latest brewing technology.
Another way for you to influence the extraction process is to change the grind size with the adjustable grinder, choosing a finer grind if you prefer a stronger and more bitter coffee or slightly coarser for a faster extraction and a weaker shot. ( 3) The bypass doser means even more possibilities, allowing you to use decaf and pre-ground coffee. Use Jura decalcifying and descaling tablets to descale the water container. Descaling can eliminate mildew, limescale deposits and mineral buildup that can produce bad tasting coffee. One of the big upgrades you get on the Jura A1 over the Ena Micro 1 is the grinder. The new and much reviewed Multi-Aroma G3 grinder is a huge step up. These are similar to automatic milk frothers, but tend to be separate from the coffee machine. Another key difference is that, rather than selecting a preset programme, you’ll need to pour your coffee and froth the milk manually if you want to make a milky drink.
