The first town over the ridge along the GR7 from Bubión is Pitres, a friendly little place with a wonderful square and some nice bars and cafés. The three cannons, two of them ancient, another from the 20th century, which have been placed throughout the term. The Christian King Ferdinand conquered Lanjarón in 1490, but the Muslims revolted ten years later. Their fight, however, was unsuccessful provoking the leader of the Moors to jump from the highest tower of the castle to his death, just before their utter defeat... so as not to have to surrender to the Christians.
