The Modern Witch Tarot has 78 modern cards with young women on them. It has illustrations of all kinds of women, femmes, and people who aren’t sure what their gender is. The Minor Arcana has no illustrations or descriptions, simply interpretations. Major and minor arcana have no reversed interpretations.While witchcraft is a relatively prominent part of the culture of the US, and steeped into the energy of Mexico, it takes a different tone in Japan, where the majority of the population is polytheist. Sterle uses a broad palette of solid colours that echo Pamela Coleman Smith's - bright blues and yellows, mustard and tan, candy pink, coral, and dove grey. The descriptions of each card are fun to read and interesting, as they put forward new ways of exploring the cards. I’m sure that at some moment in our lives, we all get to a point where ‘enough is enough’ and Lisa felt that she was at her lowest when she was reminded of ‘the ten of swords’– the tarot card signifying defeat and woe. It was at this point that Lisa began illustrating this very card, incorporating her modern ideas and flair for fashion within her work. I lovethe depiction of the Six of Wands, too. This card is all about victory, success, and achievement and depicts a woman on a horse wearing a leopard print coat and ripped jeans. In her ear is a V earring, reflecting the card’s message.
