About this deal

These classic sweets are a great choice for treat time. And with no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives, you can feel happy to enjoy these as a fun treat. I really don’t care about the prize (although it is a beautiful Bosch kitchen machine which would look dang pretty sitting in my kitchen), it’s the winning that counts. We all enter comps to win. Don’t we? Here are all the best Swedish candies you need to try! Swedish Liquorice and Gummies Ahlgrens Bilar Original and Saltlakrits NOTES:• If Polly sweets are not available, use anything you like. Shortbread, digestives or Rich Tea biscuits work really well, as do nuts, so just replace the amounts I've used with something else.

Cloetta Polly Original | TotallySwedish Ltd

Experience the delightful taste of Cloetta Polly Original, a beloved candy that will brighten up your day. In the 1940s, the Swedish government conducted studies on the tooth-decaying effects of overeating sugar (studies that were unethical and conducted on asylum patients with mental illness, it should be noted). The government then urged people to cut down on sugar intake and to keep their candy consumption to one day per week. And so Lördagsgodis was born. Combine the egg, sugar and coffee and add to the melted chocolate mixture and regularly stirring, cook for around five minutes (just until the sugar melts). Remove from the heat and allow to cool for a while. Pour mixture out onto a long piece of cling-film so you have a long, rough "sausage" shape. Roll up the cling-film and gently squeeze, roll and push until your "salami" is smooth and round. Twist the ends of the cling-film tightly. Put in the fridge for another hour. Each Polly Original candy features a soft and chewy center surrounded by a smooth milk chocolate coating. The combination of textures creates a delightful sensation with every bite.

I’ve seen fancy ones done up with string, but the instructions for how to tie the string were harder to understand than the theory of relativity, so I left it out. Pim Pim are another popular and ubiquitous candy made by Malaco, also known as Hallonbåtar. They are half-circle shaped, and meant to be sailboats. The candies raspberry-flavored and have a chewy but not soft texture. They are quite fruity and flavorful! A note: some of the candies included here are produced by Fazer, a Finnish company. As with the rest of the Nordic region, Fazer confectionary is extremely popular in Sweden and so leaving out their products wouldn’t give a clear picture of the Swedish candy landscape!

Chocolate Salami (simple, no bake dessert) - The Culinary Jumble

Of course not. Swedes can eat candy on any day they like! The culture of Lördagsgodis (Saturday sweets) is very real, however, and it’s true that most Swedes, particularly kids, focus their candy consumption on this one weekly event. On average, a Swedish person will eat 17 kilos of candy per year, with weekly consumption of an average family of four being 1,2 kilos per week. Don't worry about mixing up the wrong elements. The girls are there to guide you! Let your creativity unleash and see how many different styles of cakes you can come up with! How to Play

Polly and Shani have decided to try various recipes for the big event. There will be lots of guests, each one with their own particular tastes and preferences. We need to make sure everyone is satisfied! This time around, it’s a competition organised by one of Sweden’s most popular chocolate sweets – Polly.
