About this deal

Sadly the council stopped the parking near the market and that killed it off so I began working as a DJ in pubs and clubs and did that until I was 29 years old,” she tells us. So when Kimberley Chambers decided to give us Queenie's story I just knew it was going to be a blinder of a read. Kimberley Chambers: My friends were married to villains". Metro. 24 November 2009 . Retrieved 18 June 2018.

The gifted novelist only has nine books, but her impact on London and around the world has been huge. Chambers has a three book series: The Traitor Chambers, Victim and The Feud. The series revolves around a long time feud between two families; the Mitchells and the O’Haras. It was then that she received a phone-call from her friend Hazel, who asked if she wanted to take a hair dressing course. It was then that Chambers decided to try her hand at writing a novel. A few days later, she began writing her premiere novel Billie Jo. When she told her family about her new aspirations, they believed that it was a fad and that she would grow tired of this new venture as well. Then the unthinkable happens, Vinny’s beautiful daughter Molly disappears. The Butler brothers depart on a frantic search for the little girl. They don’t know if their enemies have taken her, or if the kidnapping is revenge for what Vinny has done.

It was then I knew that I’d finally found my vocation in life. I mad very little notes, other than some character names. After I finished each chapter, the next came easy.” With the encouragement of friends, Chambers bought a copy of the Writers and Artists Year Book and scrolled through the list of agents. I probably could drop a star as it didn't have the intensity or the rollercoaster ride of the previous books but, as I did enjoy it and couldn't stop reading it, it gets the full FIVE STARS from me. The story takes us through Queenie’s childhood into adulthood, her marriage, having children and getting to know the younger butlers as children and watching them grow. There is just something about the bond between mother and son and Queenie and Vinny’s is both heartwarming and heart breaking.

Queenie – HarperCollins Publishers UK

Kimberley’s characters have made such an impact on readers that her books are soon to be made into a television series starring Sheridan Smith as Queenie. Today the Havering Daily had the exclusive opportunity to talk to her about her life and her latest book ‘ Queenie‘ that comes out tomorrow. a gripping novel that brings the east end to life, with many brilliant characters abound...it also gives insight into the lives that were lived in those times during the war after the war, the teddy boy era and into today and it worked so well...and you have to feel for queenie what she had to fight for and bring her boys up with the man she married who couldnt or wouldnt find a proper job I was born and raised in the east end of London in the 1950s and early 60s. OK, my parents worked, but we were not well off at all. Yet, there was none of the behaviour described in the book locally whatsoever. I recognised some of the descriptions and references, those which were true to the times, such as rationing, queues in the shops, helping our neighbours and the reminders of the war all around us, but not the characters portrayed. There wasn't a likeable character at all. So much violence and theft, most of it condoned by the parents. Kimberley’s books appeal to most and I frequently hear her books discussed with quotes such as “ that Queenie is tough, blimey what a character.”Tbh I always liked Queenie in the other books but at times just what she ‘overlooked’ re her boys behaviours especially Vinnie didn’t endear me to her quite so much this time
