It was the only stack of blocks on the perimeter of the rectangular Astral plane that wound itself into a spiral, since there were so many of them. Abyss combines its fantastic artwork with really solid mechanics that ended up really appealing to me. You will need to recruit the most influential Lords to utilise their powers and take control of territories. I love set ups like this as it makes it very smooth to play numerous games in a row without a lot of downtime between the plays.

You need to keep an eye on your opponents as there really is a chance that someone could run away with the victory because you have been faffing about and not getting lords or locations quick enough. As soon as a player has three keys in their possession, either the keys shown on recruited lords, or keys gained from defeating monsters, they gain control over a location. You can keep going in this fashion until either you elect to stop by taking the card or fighting a monster, or you get to the end of the track. Is this game of undersea strategy just a pretty face or does it have what it takes to earn a spot on your gaming shelf? When you have finished your mandatory actions, your turn ends and the next player to your left goes. The draft becomes more interesting and important as you require certain allies to be able to fight the Leviathans.You will also churn through the Lords and Locations faster, meaning you’ll see more of them in a game. This is also a smart move as it can get you a bunch of cards quickly, but they usually will be the lower value cards. Any uncollected Allies at the end of the draft will go into the city council and can be collected on future turns by any player.
