Having been covered by 127 local and national media outlets including the Daily Mail, ITV and BT News, The Cake Campaign has reached incredible successes and just keeps on growing! The aim of this event, and collaboration with renowned baker Lily Vanilli, is to celebrate Syrian culture and cuisine, which is one of the oldest in the world, and help raise funds for Syria and the region affected by one of the largest humanitarian crisis of our time via NEXTGen London.Syrian cuisine is one of the oldest in the world and reflects the country’s rich cultural heritage with influences from across the Middle East and beyond. Imad uses ingredients such as pomegranate molasses (a tangy sweet-sour syrup made from boiling and reducing pomegranate juice), sumac (the vibrant, citrussy sour dried and ground berries of the sumac plant), bulgur wheat (cracked wheat berries that are cooked and dried, traditionally used in tabbouleh) and tahini (a paste made from toasted and ground sesame seeds). The affected regions have a large representation in London, and we are already overwhelmed by the support of those who have offered to help. If you're a dab hand at Syrian-inspired baking, bring your own creations along for the cake competition at 3pm.

The students taking part in the Bake Sale wanted to do something–something other than sit at home in the knowledge that family and friends have lost everything and are fighting for their lives.The speed at which these initiatives can come together – and how much support they can rely on in a short space of time – is especially evident with a charity bake sale to raise funds for those affected by the recent earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.
