About this deal

It is important that the heated blanket is fully dried before connecting it to the plug and before use. Testing was done with a couple who are famously hard to please, and like different temperatures to sleep. The controls are easy to use, with six heat settings – including a fast-heat setting – and three options for the auto shut off duration.

It feels quite utilitarian – the fleece feels quite felt-like, and the wires do create small bumps under the mattress. There are also six heat settings, and if you stick it on the highest setting it will preheat super quickly. Just to be clear, when the blanket is laid on the bed and you are stood at the bottom of the bed looking down it are they on the left r right? There were nine settings for feet and body, ranging from boiling-hot nine to barely noticeable one; four or five was optimal for me. My present electric blanket has a connector which is most annoyingly placed where I can feel it below shoulder level when I turn over .With 10 heat settings and 10 timing options, plus easy-to-use controls, the Slumberdown elegantly warm luxury heated throw was a no-brainer to win best overall for this roundup.

The heating elements inside the blanket may become damaged if they are bent down the sides of the mattress. This Beurer electric blanket is perfect for those who are worried about forgetting to turn their blanket off, or those who are not wanting to sleep with their blanket turned on all night. I liked the feature that adds extra heat to the area around your feet: in all honesty, I found in general keeping my feet snug and warm quite nice, whereas too much heat on my body made me feel stuffy and affected my sleep. It is quite bulky though; the well-spread-out wires make sure there are no cold patches, but you can definitely feel all the cables and it’s quite heavy to lug. Registered office: Electric-Blankets, Tayson House, Methley Road, Castleford, West Yorkshire, WF10 1PA, GB. In terms of usability it was all fairly straightforward, and the elasticated skirt meant no faffing about with straps. The single control has six heat settings and we tended to whack it to six to prewarm, and then turn it down when we were under it. Whatever kind of blanket you’re looking for, you can find it in our range of luxuriously comfortable Beurer electric blankets.

We found that this throw kept us very warm indeed thanks to a combination of the heating elements and the faux fur. Dr Stanley says switching on an electric blanket around half an hour before bed should make it perfectly cosy to get into, letting you drift to sleep naturally, but you should set it to turn off some time after you nod off. The controller is on the left hand side when looking over from the foot of the bed (right hand side when layed on the bed). Ultra thin wires are now used across the Beurer Komfort range to avoid the discomfort of lying on bulky wires and elements that cheaper blankets use.

The underblanket provides relaxing heat – whether for use after a long day sitting in your office chair or after exercising. I found that some cheaper blankets had a tendency to come lose or crease up when I moved around at night; this one was fine. Unlike the heavy covers your grandmother used to inflict on you, the best electric blankets these days are soft and light, with wires you’ll barely notice – and thankfully much safer and affordable, too.

You can choose for it to turn off after 1, 3, 6, or 12 hours, so you can even get the blanket to turn off in the middle of the night when you’re already fast asleep. There are dual controls, which means you can govern the temperature on your side of the bed without interference from co-sleepers. If you’re after a mattress protector-style electric blanket then the Dreamland snowed in would be our pick – it’s well-made, comes with dual controls and is easy to use. They’re perfect for snuggling up on the sofa under, or having across your lap during the day whether you’re working or relaxing. While health benefits shouldn’t be exaggerated, you might find if you suffer from a condition like arthritis or poor circulation that an electric blanket can alleviate some of the pain.Safety-wise there is very little to worry about, but look out for British Electrotechnical Approvals Board (BEAB) approval. There are three heat settings and an LED display on the controls, which allow you to easily see how warm your blanket is/is going to get. I found this in many ways the best blanket, mainly because the fluffy sheepskin-style fleece isn’t thick at all – and bedsheets are easier to attach and keep flat on a thinner electric blanket. Fleecy on one side, and soft and smooth on the other, this Lakeland heated throw feels as cosy as can be.
