Hilda, David, and Frida must band together to keep her from causing a catastrophic rip in Nowhere Space. When she was a troll Hilda still retained cyanic hair (albeit slightly more gray in tone), but she had a stone-like skin, uneven teeth and an elongated nose most common for trolls.

In July 2013, Hilda and the Midnight Giant was featured in The Best 7 Books for Young Readers list released by Deutschlandfunk, the German public radio. Realizing that the hound was not evil, just lost and scared, Hilda convinced her mom to help lure him out of the city before the Trolberg Safety Patrol could capture him. When they talk about how grateful they are of Ahlberg because they think that he saved David from trolls the previous day and the night before, he gets angry at them for not knowing what really happend during those two days in the forrest (in episode Chapter 13: The Stone Forest). Thankfully, one elf, Alfur came to her aid and helped Hilda meet both the Elf Prime Minister and Elf King to try and settle the conflict.Hilda agreed to this and even offered to help Alfur fight, but Frida interfered and suggested to find a solution that could benefit everybody. Wood Man (voiced by Ako Mitchell) – A brown-coloured, tree-like being who frequently visits Hilda's former home in the forest. Hilda again tries in vain to convince Ahlberg to stop the attack, while the ground begins to tremble, signaling that the giant mother troll is awakening.

The same episode, she and the Wood Man end up seeking out a Draugen ship, and when the Draugen follow her to land, Hilda unites them with their relatives at the cemetery. Together, the kids and the vittra head off to the mulching machine and manage to save the vittra before they are crushed.

She later begins magic training under Matilda Pilqvist to become a witch with Hilda as her familiar, eventually becoming well skilled at performing various powerful spells. It worked, but she failed to properly read the entire section and thus didn't realize the Tide Mice would eventually give David and Johanna's souls to her. Hilda and Johanna have escaped the 'Stone Forest' only to discover that Twig has been taken captive by the Two-Headed Troll.

While driving, the group is separated while using Nowhere Space to warp out of the city, sending Jellybean and his owner into the wilderness. Hilda feels dejected, but soon feels better when Alfur decides to take her to the king, even if it violates protocols.They come in a large variety of shapes and sizes, though the troll as depicted on the page image is one of the most commonly seen versions: large boulders, but with large stumpy arms and legs, with white blank eyes that seem to glow, and a large mouth with several sharp teeth. Hilda is an animated streaming television series based on the graphic novel series of the same name by Luke Pearson. An inordinate amount of love and attention to detail is going into this thing and I'm looking forward to sharing the result in a couple of years' time. Though moving away from the wild and into a bustling city, Hilda still manages to befriend even the most dangerous of monsters.

In the movie adaptation, she even fears that getting too close to the ringing bells in Trolberg's belltowers might kill her. They soon discover that this log cabin can grant any wish they want, but they are not able to leave it. Only now does Hilda find out Trundle has tricked her; he is the mountain king, and now that he is free and has his eye (the red orb) back, he plans to attack Trolberg and wake up Amma, the mother of all Trolls.In " Chapter 8: The Tide Mice", she successfully auditions for the Warblers, and becomes a singer in the choir. David manages to run down the stairs on time but is still in danger of being crushed by the tower's rubble falling down.
