Easy to see this tour stop was an underplay- they could have sold more tickets if they had a bigger venue but You Can't Always Get What You Want – But Sometimes You Get What You Need. The band decided on a two month European tour during the peak summer months with the first show being June 1 and the last August 3rd. After our family vacations in Munich, we (my wife Birthe and myself) had the chance to see The Band at Hyde Park, London. Contrary to my expectations, it was probably the rather cold weather and the national transport strike that grounded London to almost a halt that gave the city a rather subdued and sedated rhythm. At least 65,000 people attended and, unusually for a Stones concert, the majority were not wearing Stones shirts – a real opportunity for merchandising revenue.

First, the opportunity to go with some people that never saw the Stones before, an ethnic group in extinction. There were queues of many hours this weekend for British holidaymakers trying to drive to France because, according to a French MP, “immigration staff did not turn up for work”. This tour was also made possible by the 2020 tour dates being successfully completed in 2021 so the band could approach 2022 the 60th anniversary with a blank canvas. Sympathy is also a great way to start the encore – the audience doing the woo woos before Jagger appeared twirling in a long-tailed jacket. The only positive face of a show in Longchamp is lot of place to have commodity for toilet, food, drink so I used it.

I too would like to hear a night of rarities, but this is reality and the new tight, sound put enough of a twist on the rest of the night to wake up my senses and make me appreciate what these guys can deliver.
