About this deal

He decides he is going home on his own, despite the warnings of being alone from an annoying know-it-all warthog that sees him. The training for gladiators was pretty fun to watch, if it wasn't for those annoying human gladiators who really need to get their heads out of their butts.

I started reading this series from the second book and have really loved it but going back to this first book I was a little worried that I might not find it as funny as the later ones, as sometimes happens when you enter a series in the middle. After being shipwrecked on the shores of Egypt and mistaken for a Horse God, Julius can't believe his luck! What they don't realise is they have been kidnapped and are being taken to Rome by soldiers to fight great battles with gladiators in the world's deadliest theatre, the Colosseum! I enjoyed this book because it was hilarious – I will recommend this book to 7-9 because of the tricky Roman numeral numbers. One of my favourite characters was Julius Zebra because he was so funny, especially when he gave his autograph with his muddy foot and the girl kissed it. Aj ľudské postavy sú značne preexponované a tiež hlasno rapotajú, málokedy v tejto knihe niekto hovorí potichu.

I think it’s really good and funny because it has lots of adjectives, good characters and lots of funny words. Northfield has worked on the Horrible Histories books and has obviously taken note of their success at delivering historical fact in an amusing way that appeals to kids, as in Rumble with the Romans he very cleverly weaves in all kind of historical elements about gladiators and Roman life in general, both in the writing and in his fantastic illustrations. Our Adult Fiction Books, Range includes Classics Novels, Comic Books, Crime, Thriller, Mystery Novels, General Fiction, Horror, Romance, Science Fictionand War. So after one of Julius’s fights Emperor Hadrian told them to go to Britannia and fight the gladiators. He tries to imagine the water as crystal-clear sparkling water from a mountain, but as soon as he tastes it, he knows better. As it turns out the threat is a Roman battalion collecting animals to provide entertainment at gladiator bouts. Add in a healthy dollop of toilet humour and a host of other equally bonkers animal characters and you have a book that will cause many a giggle and guffaw amongst the 7 pluses (and most likely their parents as well). I think it is the exactly the same story as Julius Caesar but instead of having Julius Caesar we had a zebra be a crew of animals instead of a crew of people also known as humans. With a guide to Roman numerals and a fun, factual glossary in the back pages, this is a fast-paced, funny and utterly bonkers introduction to all things Roman Britain.

When I read the book it made me feel lucky that I didn't live in ancient Rome because there were fierce battles including animals and humans. There is also a glossary at the back of the book, which tells you what the Roman names featured in the story mean. A collection of early Derek the Sheep stories was published by Bloomsbury Publishing in September 2008 and in France by Actes Sud/Editions De L'an2, [7] reprinting the first thirteen strips in The Beano. On this madcap new adventure; our unlikely heroes will confront the Minotaur in the labyrinth; trick a one-hundred-headed dragon at the Garden of Hesperides and; after a dramatic visit to King Midas; perform a daring rescue attempt in the depths of the Underworld.
