You’ll need to take risks with your rolls and think on your feet, switching plans if, say, you don’t get the feet you need to move to your target zone. In the boss phase, the boss first activates its ability, then you roll some of the new red dice into the volcano. Not being able to butt heads with another player over who gets to stay in Tokyo or New York does feel like a loss, with the risk coming from the less-human threat of the AI-controlled boss monster rather than your opponents. There’s a cool volcano in the box that you build: it serves as a dice tower for the Boss (the Bad Guy) dice! If the boss succeeds in their objective or if one of the players is killed then the boss wins, if the boss is killed then the players win. The destruction of the island promptly forced the Seatopians to attack Japan, as the resulting earthquake caused by the sinking island severely damaged the capital of Seatopia. This series includes the base game and all of its expansions, as well as King of New York, King of Monster Island and all of their expansions. Dice rolls add excitement too, of course – but, when it comes to the player turns, the powerful thrill of those three precious rerolls has diminished compared with King of Tokyo.
