Poems of the Decade is a collection of poems from the first decade of the 21st century, published by the Forward Poetry Foundation.The Forward Prizes for Poetry have established themselves as central to the literary landscape of modern Britain. This anthology of anthologies draws on the ten Forward Books of Poetry published to accompany the prizes between 2001 and 2010. You will have to pick one of two specified questions, each of which will have one poem that is part of this collection and one unseen poem. A selection of 20 of these poems has been chosen by Edexcel for the Poetry paper of the A Level specification. They have been awarded annually since 1992 for the Best Collection, Best First Collection and Best Single Poem published in Britain and Ireland, and the roster of winning, shortlisted and highly commended poets regularly juxtaposes familiar canonical names with fresh voices. The selected poems cover a wide range of styles and subject matter, opening up plenty of material for discussion.It includes poems by Raymond Antrobus, Simon Armitage, Fiona Benson, Liz Berry, Caroline Bird, Vahni Capildeo, Alice Oswald and Claudia Rankine. It is often profitable to make connections between them, but in Edexcel Paper 3, students are asked to compare a previously unseen poem with one from Poems of the Decade . The 100 poems contained in this anthology were selected from the many thousands of poems submitted to the Forward Prizes for Poetry over the past ten years.
