About this deal

The Peregrine has always been a stiff shoe due to the rockplate and I found older versions of the Peregrine to be too stiff for any pavement running. in the toe — doesn't seem as thick as other options we tested, the overall average amount of cushion across the whole shoe is more than most. Like the Saucony Ride 15 TR GTX, this shoe has an 8mm drop, which is the highest heel-to-toe offset in the Saucony Trail Collection. With 4mm of drop, the whole package feels delightfully neutral, and while 23mm under the forefoot doesn't feel like a racing flat, the Peregrine 11 feels more stable than higher stacked competitors.

Over the past 18 years, he has competed in many ultra-distance races and has completed 15 100-mile races, including Ozark Trail, Leadville, Big Horn, and HURT 100. In maximally cushioned, high-stack shoes the ground feel is decreased due to the high amount of foam in the midsole. The Peregrine 11 also had Pwrrun+, but it was in the form of a much thinner ‘Topsole’ under an EVA foam footbed.

Klein is a Doctor of Physical Therapy, Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist and Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists. Having more ground-feel allows for more sensory feedback, thus resulting in muscles, tendons, and joints working together to provide awareness and quick adaptations on uneven surfaces. While the mesh is thin, breathable, moisture-wicking, the feet tend to get pretty cold in winter weather. The expanded PU foam footbed performs equally well in freezing temperatures, and is resistant to compression fatigue. Thanks to the outsole design, these shoes don't require an exaggerated heel-to-toe drop to add propulsion. Megan: The Saucony Peregrine provides a smooth and comfortable ride on all surface types tested, making it a solid option for runs consisting of trails, both roads and trails, and snow/icy conditions. For example, if the midfoot area of the outsole has long lugs, it’s difficult to have the gaiter strap flush with the outsole. If I had to choose between responsiveness or element-protection, I would choose protection for a trail shoe. a more minimal upper should decrease irritation hotspots and a new debris shield keep out mud and loose stones.

The rock plate is constructed from tightly woven nylon, allowing for more flexibility than a piece of plastic. Underneath the midsole is a firm, fiber-weave rockplate that’s there to protect your forefoot from the beating of sharp rocks and sticks. Even though this trail-specific shoe didn't walk away with an award, it will enhance the experience of expert runners racing in technical terrain. Despite stripped down cushioning on the upper, the Peregrine 12 is comfortable for a narrow to medium-width foot.I do think that maybe they’ve moved towards the softer ground a bit because I felt a bit of slip on some of the harder surfaces.
