About this deal

As for using sawdust as mulch for strawberries, I wouldn't because when sawdust gets damp, it stays very damp for a long time and any berries touching it are prone to going moldy faster. Most strawberries produce a single crop between late May and late July and they are classified as early, mid or late season depending on when they ripen during this period. They are characterised by having very well developed root systems and, on average, will go on to produce 3-4 trusses per plant, which in turn will help to generate more flowers and fruit – 400g+ of berries per plant! I have my strawberries growing in 2 pots - smaller one stacked on top of bigger one - and slugs can't be bothered to crawl up! If the initial age verification is unsuccessful, we will contact you asking you to provide further information to prove that you are aged 18 or over.

Post moderation is undertaken full-time 9am-6pm on weekdays, and on a part-time basis outwith those hours. Burford Strawberry Mats come in packets of six and are constructed of a strong, UV resistant material that will last more than one season. The excellent cultivated forms of strawberry we enjoy today are relative newcomers; for centuries our three native European species were gathered from the wild. Cut a 30sq cm square of cardboard, cut a slit from one edge to a hole in the middle and place them round individual plants. Alpine strawberries such as Mignonette also punch above their weight and give a long season of smaller but often tastier and more fragrant fruits. Our strawberry mats are not only great for strawberries but can also be used to protect a variety of plants including hostas, patio plants, lettuce, and vegetables. Viruses are usually spread by aphids, but soil pathogens - fungi, nematodes and eelworms - can also be responsible. I don't see why putting red objects close to them shouldn't work just as well - not sure about that though. If it's a plastic mulch, then you'd need room around the crown to let the rain in, plus some slug pellets underneath as a precaution.

The strawberry mats are the perfect solution for protecting your strawberry plants from pesky slugs and snails. Quote from: Goosegirl on November 05, 2015, 12:57 James Wong says that studies have shown that strawbs planted through a red plastic mulch tricks them into thinking they have nearby competitors so they produce bigger and sweeter fruit. I laid down some of this in my mum's garden and not only does it look good, it also keep the slugs of her flowerbeds. I had a similar idea in mind but was trying to find a "material" with a rough surface, something like coarse sandpaper but obviously that would be too expensive.Leave 8-10cm lengths of frame protruding from the other side to act as pegs, securing them with nails. The mats can be used under pots or directly on the soil and come in two sizes to accommodate different planting areas. These Strawberry Mats have copper impregnated in them and safely stop the pests from reaching your crops, while they also help keep weeds at bay and retain important moisture. When slugs and snails attempt to move onto the fabric they feel discomfort and either move off or stay still.
