About this deal

Freed from the Wizard’s spell Superworm is back and performing for the crowd, when he suddenly realises he’s not even thanked his brave friend Butterfly for everything she’s done for him. All the toads, beetles, bees and bugs clap and cheer Superworm; 'Hip, hip, hooray for SUPERWORM' is their chant. From pirates to dragons, aliens and ghosts, this book serves as a celebration of all stories, and a reminder of how one story can lead to another!

He moved to England in 1982 to study illustration at the Bath Academy of Art, and then set up home in London. Also, I thought it was time to create a real villain – Wizard Lizard is definitely not a loveable rogue, and Axel has made him look really frightening. An animated comedy for all the family, based on the picture book written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler. But then Superworm is captured by the wicked Wizard Lizard who sends his servant the black and grim crow to go and fetch him to their lair. The very accommodating worm rescues his friends, so when he is in trouble, his friends put together a daring and clever plan to rescue him. It demonstrates to children good teamwork and how it doesn’t matter who you are, anyone can be a superhero. The most recent film was Zog and the Flying Doctors which premiered on BBC One on Christmas Day 2020. The bees help to create a sticky situation and all the flying bugs help to deliver the wicked master right to the rubbage pile.

There is also a Superworm song, which is included in the audio version of the book by Imelda Staunton and which was one of the items in my stage show “The Gruffalo, the Witch and the Warthog”. One of my television songs, A SQUASH AND A SQUEEZE, was made into a book in 1993, with illustrations by the wonderful Axel Scheffler. It’s the sheer imaginative tour de force of Donaldson’s jaunty rhyming narrative and Scheffler’s brilliantly funny illustrations that will have this book wriggling into your affections.Super-long and super-strong, he's always on hand to help out all the other animals and insects - whether he's saving baby toad from an accident, rescuing beetle from falling down a well, or even good-naturedly offering himself up as a skipping rope for some bored bees. Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler are the UK’s number one picture book pair and no story-time is complete without Julia’s perfect read-aloud rhyme and Axel’s unique artwork. It's directed by Jac Hamman and Sarah Scrimgeour and produced by Martin Pope and Barney Goodland with animation services by Blue Zoo.

Working on these Magic Light productions is always a delight and deciding how to voice characters is such fun. The voice acting is] the last bit of the jigsaw - these incredibly talented artists have been working away for two years on these exquisite drawings. We work separately - he’s in London and I’m in Glasgow - but he sends me letters with lovely funny pictures on the envelopes. Jodie's passion is helping parents, teachers, librarians and anyone else interested in nurturing and reaching ALL of our youngest growing readers. Vivid colors—blacks, purples, yellows, and more—jump off the big pages and pictures with action and fun!But when the wicked Wizard Lizard hears about Superworm's popularity, he sends his grim servant crow to kidnap Superworm, and uses his magic flower to enslave our brave hero. Each Friday, check back for a new book and list of activities that you can do with your kids this summer. Better the evil ones should be portrayed by cute kittens and lovable puppies, rather than reptiles or birds. I would say this is my favourite story written by Donaldson, I love the flow of the text and the rhymes throughout. Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler collaborate once again on this entertaining story about an unlikely superhero, which is certain to charm young readers.

The duo became picture book superstars with titles including The Gruffalo, Room on the Broom, Stick Man, The Highway Rat, Zog and The Snail and the Whale – all of which have been made into award-winning animated films by Magic Light Pictures. The Lizard has him trying to find treasure but in the meantime his friends hatch a cunning plan to rescue him. The films are just lovely and they come out at the time of year when you can all be cosy and at home and watching something together. This prompted me to unearth some plays I’d written for a school reading group, and since then I’ve had 20 plays published.
