About this deal

I thought the story had a really good plot and there was a few plot twists I didn't see coming which is good and the story didn't feel dragged out or chaotic. Hendy's character work is simply excellent; Margery and Clementine are a sixty-something British 2SLGBTQIA+ couple with whom you will fall head over heels. The dynamics between the various co-workers at the school were intriguing and did pique my interest as I read.

The Dinner Lady Detectives (Dinner Lady Detectives, book 1 The Dinner Lady Detectives (Dinner Lady Detectives, book 1

Clementine is a collection of tics and quirks with no anchor, as if the author decided that "take an asshole but make them an old woman" was enough. What is happening and can be seen clearly not only in the small town but what that character does, represent it all. Margery and Clementine start investigating - and getting into all kinds of escapades around the school. Their calm life is shattered when their kitchen manager is found dead in the school’s walk-in freezer.Margery and Clementine smell a rat when one of their colleagues is found dead in the walk-in freezer of the school kitchen and so begins their unorthodox investigation into her death which results in all manner of escapades. As things with the strange markings continue to appear and strange goings-on occur, the Dinner Lady Detectives find themselves once again on the front line of solving crime - but are they putting themselves in danger?

The Dinner Lady Detectives (4 book series) Kindle edition

It is the fourth book in a series which did worry me slightly, as I haven’t read the others, but apart from spoiling the previous books (to be fair you can’t have a series without referencing past outcomes! I thought Clementine and Margery, along with their fellow Education Centre Nourishment Consultants (love this title! There are a lot of characters involved (all new to me), and the plotting is fairly convoluted with lots of red herrings and dark forebodings. Matching the other 3 books in style, but a new bold colour - these are going to look amazing on my shelf! There were some very good lines in the descriptions usually that I did find amusing-- Margery bewailing her ancestors settling on a spot centuries ago where the lawn chairs would blow away in a storm, for example-- but other things fell flat for me. The plot is great, the character cast is spot on, and the dialogue and humor is so quick, smart, and addictive . Clementine is more talkative with a hint of rudeness, an unorganized person, and a person who has ”You only live once” motto on her forehead.
