About this deal

The biggest strength of this book is that all the elements of the story are perfectly attuned to each other.

The suspense builds as Aveline delves deeper into the history of Malmouth and its urban legends and culminates in an epic and heart-stopping moment when the story comes to an almighty and terrifying climax. Myślę, że dla młodzieży będzie super, ale i dla dorosłych boidutków, którzy jednak chcieliby coś w klimacie lekkiej grozy przeczytać w czasie „spooky season”, sprawdzi się nieźle. It's one of those books where you could cosy down with a hot chocolate on a dark night close to Halloween and read cover-to-cover. I wouldn’t be surprised if the release of the third book in the series makes me want to dive back into the cold, dark water with the lady in the waves. This is a clever way of letting the reader know more about Primrose; we learn of her likes and dislikes through her diary, which gives a real insight into her character.A Toppsta reviewer said they couldn't put down this exciting middle grade mystery adventure series for ages 8+, so read up and don't miss out on this fun, Halloween-y read that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The way Hickes draws you in with his chilling descriptions of the town and its residents gets under your skin and you know something isn’t right. And this is a very spooky read, one which I requested from Net Galley after having my curiosity sparked by all the discussion about it on Twitter at the end of last week. The main character was saved by a person who grew in bravery ten-fold to see to it that no one else should befall her own fate.

It is not how she imagined spending her half-term, but at least she'll be able to read some more ghost stories. Primrose’s disappearance is somehow intertwined with local legends about a vengeful spirit who rises from the sea at Halloween, a spirit who may be pursuing Aveline. Create your own spooky local legend for the chance to have it turned into a short story written by Aveline Jones author Phil Hickes, and featured in the third Aveline Jones book! I thoroughly enjoyed meeting Aveline, and I am delighted to see that another adventure is planned for her in the future. The first in a compelling series of ghostly mysteries, which is sure to prompt readers to check under their beds before they turn the lights out.Aveline is a wonderful protagonist, with her slightly quirky need to surround herself with ghost stories. They capture the atmosphere of the story brilliantly and the scarecrow pictures, in particular, are creepy as hell. Of course, it is fine if you find the horror tropes of the 1970s frightening, however, what Hickes presents in this story holds tightly to the classic ensemble of true to the core horror; one does not need to be young to fear abduction. Despite her fondness for ghost stories, she finds the town a little creepy, particularly when sinister scarecrows appear outside people’s homes in the lead up to Halloween.
