About this deal

I would have loved if the pacing of the book could have been a little quicker, as the details bogged it down some. a beautiful window into the life of a fascinating woman who defied convention in almost every area of her life and succeeded in publishing one of the most controversial novels of the early twentieth century . Suddenly, there would be a reference to air sirens during WWI, and I would be completely shocked that this novel didn't take place right now.

Coincidentally, I finished reading this on February 2nd, 100 years after Sylvia Beach’s publication of Ulysses in Paris on February 2, 1922!Desde las primeras páginas disfruté descubrir a una joven amante de los libros que se convertiría en un referente mundial, siendo la primera editora de Ulises de James Joyce. A beautiful ode to Sylvia Beach, the renowned Shakespeare and Company owner, a real-life heroine who has left her mark on us all. It also contrasts Paris with the US, especially as the US enacted the Volstead Act and sought to outlaw anything that smacked of indecency. The Paris Bookseller takes place from 1917 to 1936, from the end of the First World War into the Depression, and it’s being published one hundred years later.
