With the upcoming release of Top Gun: Maverick, audiences will be treated to over 110 minutes of bonus content, including behind-the-scenes moments with the filmmakers as they capture the spectacular aerial sequences, push the limits beyond Mach-10, and of course, you'll be able to watch the cast's intense flight training program that got them in shape for some of the insanely cool moments in the film. This UHD SteelBook release of Top Gun: Maverick is glossy and will sow some handling fingerprints in the darker areas. Once defined by the very vehicle that made him famous, and that saw him playing iterations of the same character across a number of popular productions (most obviously taking to the race tracks for Days of Thunder), it's impressive that he came back to the Top Gun series to define it.

And Lady Gaga fans will be thrilled to know that both her music video and OneRepublic's will be included in this release. I bought all of the Australian limited editions of Sailor Moon Classic and Crystal on Blu-ray (the latter having much nicer boxes), but as a general rule, I'll avoid the exceedingly extravagant boxsets unless they come with exclusive content.

The in-plane footage is equally amazing for very different reasons, with less of a stylised approach it's impressive really in that it manages to effortlessly balance what - at first glance - appears to be almost razor-sharp documentary footage, with an acute cinematic eye, to yield something utterly immersive. The score is fabulous too, enjoying the talents of Lorne Balfe, Hans Zimmer, Top Gun's own Harold Faltermeyer, and even Lady Gaga, all coming together perfectly to provide a tremendously sweeping accompaniment that really gets to the emotional core of the movie and its characters. That same year, Maggie joined as a co-host on the Star Wars podcast ‘Outer Rim Beacon,’ and has appeared as a guest on numerous Star Wars podcasts and other pop culture podcasts. The tales of production difficulties encountered by Tony Scott making the first movie echo charmingly second time around, but for very different reasons. Cheesy and over the top, Cruise's Top-Gun-with-cars is still an absolute blast of a guilty pleasure, with some of the best race sequences of all time, looking and sounding better than ever in native 4K with Dolby Vision and Atmos.

A Commentary, a longer, more in-depth Documentary, hell an entire film dedicated to how they accomplished this feat. Even on the extras front - the area where you could most obviously complain that the disc is lacking - the almost entirely Featurette-based supplementals are still all high quality, and it's telling that they are so good that you just want more.
